Mother in Law passed away unexpectedly at the beginning of the year. We had a house fire and lost everything in July, including our pet.

I am so ready for this year to be over with.

it's funny when people make comments like this, as if you can't do everything hans mentioned AND still save money.

You can if you don't have student debt. Dunno about saving money only savings I have after all my bills are my 401k, about a grand in the bank. You don't need to make a lot of money to have all that stuff I know kids whose parents payed for all their education. They got jobs making less than me but have some of the best cars or other things that I can't afford because no one could help me out.

When I graduated and got a job my parents were asking me to help them out not the other way around.

you can if you have student debt, i know because i personally do it. i am saving 15% of my salary in 401k and maxing my roth ira, as well as have a bit in my savings account.

obviously not everyone is in the same boat, but to jump to conclusions (as the guy i quoted did) is just being pretty dumb.

and i personally think it is not worth it to save money if you can't do it while having fun. your whole life style will turn into someone who does that and will never be able to enjoy your money in life, and when you do, you will be too old to do things you could have done when younger.

I agree I really dont care about money as long as I have enough for bills and food and something in case of emergencies. I really don't need tons of money when I'm old wtf will I do with it ? My goals and interest will be different and I'm pretty sure I would not want the same things as now.

Went in for surgery on 9/20. Planned 1 day recovery. Burned all my sick time and vacation time up before finally going on FMLA. Finally getting back to work next week after the Doctor "nicked" my femoral artery. Can't get in contact with my short term disability insurance claims adjuster to see if the required paperwork has been submitted by the Doctor. I'm sure it will be months until I see any money from them.....broke and broken.

i would like to add that i said i had a good year, but i guess you need to let go of things you can't control or itll just seem bad.

like my brother has schizophrenia. i used to let this bother me, like i felt a little guilty because i got out ok. anyway he flipped out and stopped taking his meds and flipped out in the middle of his job at lunch and we put him in some sort of group home where he seems to be doing ok, but now he doesnt have a car or a job and is going to live on disability. can't control stuff like that and i just figured you know what i'm gonna enjoy myself and not worry about what i can't do anything about .

My year has been pretty good for the most part.
Some issues dealing with my bank, and my best friend moved 1000 miles away, and my uncle's been having a shitty last couple of years (ever since his divorce he's had it really rough.)

But much good, stable happy relationship, good vacation early in the year to New Orleans & on a Cruise, going on vacation next week with the girlfriend to visit my best friend and his family (wife & 3 boys.) I'm in a stable financial situation, and I'm saving more than I'm spending. Should be able to pay off my 2nd mortgage on my house within 5 years ... (bought the house with an 80% and 20% loan 5 years ago. putting extra into the 20% loan to pay it down faster)

Take a look at the tuition inflation rates. Gen X was the last generation through college without enormous debt. Its actually not possible, its really not! Go do the math on how much debt servicing one pays compared to their after-tax income for various careers. Gen Y is going to have alot of broken expectations. Gen Y is 19-29... ish.

Most who went to grad school are in Debt hell, those who got a good bachelors in anything STEM turned out alright, especially with a little mommy and daddy help for emergencies like broken down car or getting sick, that type of thing. Anyone liberal arts got screwed. I'm generalizing alot, but its actually the majority facing that type of situation now and people try to ignore it.

Bought a 30" monitor and found that my desk may not fit it.

Got a GT-R and now I don't have any garage place for my Porsche. May have to buy house #4 to fit all my cars.

I get paid $200 per hour to surf the internet. That used to be pretty cool, but now I find it tedious and boring.

well the problem with the gen Y'ers as you call it is for the most part they are lazy as shit and want everything for nothing. i see it with my younger brother and my brother in law, as well as just seeing it with my own eyes in society when you go everywhere. you see the little shits at the stores not serve you with a smile or act as if they are doing you a favor because they are doing their job.

i've worked since i was 14, all through highschool and college, and went to a state school which keeps the cost of college down quite a bit. i also did great in highschool and had some grants as well as financial aid for college.

i'm pretty close to your numbers of gen Y'ers too, 30 now turning 31 at the end of this month.

also people who get worthless degrees such as 'liberal arts' have no one else to blame but themselves. but this goes back to what i initially said - they are lazy as shit and didn't properly research the degrees or job opportunities after they have it, and didn't do the math of what their debt will be vs what their expected salary would be. again, that is because they are too lazy to do it.

My year has been amazing so far...but my mother lost her job and has been unemployed for about 4 months now. I've been giving her money and she decided to take the LSAT and go back to school. She is also working on her MBA and will be finished in December.

There are very few... very few. I've only met one that I ever got emotionally invested in. The rest were nothing worth falling over for. In relation to places like Portland, it feels like there's no cute girls at all up here. Portland isn't fucking paradise, but it feels like a normal city in relation to the CGI(Cute Girl Index).

For you it might not be (Maybe you're just asexual). But for me, that is a very bad year. If I can't find ANYONE that I am even REMOTELY interested in... That is a terrible year.

I'm tired of this city. It's so terrible in so many ways.
