Anyone else in Gainesville or New Tampa ?

Wait a minute.... Gainesville and New Tampa are pretty far apart. 125 miles to be exact. That's like asking, "Is anyone else in Miami or Vero Beach?"

Do you live in New Tampa and go to school in Gainesville or something? GOD! I Hope you don't commute to class every day!

I graduated from UF in the summer of '03 and now live just south of Tampa in Sarasota...

Are you stalking me? 😀

Umm.... A LOT North of I-4. I-4 runs right through Ybor City and Downtown Tampa.

You might be thinking of driving North on I-75 and counting the exits. After I-4 you've only got an exit for Fowler Avenue, then Fletcher and then Bruce B. Downs (New Tampa,) but check your odometer. It's a stretch.

I think it's safer to say that New Tampa is just South of Wesley Chapel than it is to say New Tampa is just North of I-4, or even Tampa.

I commute from Sarasota to St. Pete everyday so anything less than 20 miles is a 'just' in my book.

I USED to live in Tampa for 9 years, and I've NEVER heard of "New Tampa"... but then again, I've been away for about 7 years now

It was probably about 7 years ago when New Tampa came about. They were incorporated Hillsborough County, but wanted the benefits of being part of the Tampa city system. Tampa wouldn't do it for YEARS (you've heard of Hunter's Green, Cory Lake Estates and Tampa Palms, right?) because the area was so far North of Tampa that it was ridiculous.

Eventually, they came to a happy medium. Annex the area as a seperate city that is part of the first city. Hence, "New Tampa."
