Ok, so let me list all the Led (ok, don't harass me if they technically aren't led's... im just guna say if its a small glowing light its a led) pieces of equipment

my speaker control pod has a constant on led
my logitech mx3100 wireless base has MULTIPLE green led's
my mx1000 mouse has green battery level led's
my crummy 19 CRT has two BIG green led's right below the screen (had to cover those w/ duct tape, don't wanna see those when im watchin a movie)
AND THEN there is my computer...my damn abit an8 SLI has red led's galore coming from the back of my case
my room phone has an always on led
my tv has a red LED that needs to be on when its turned off

...im sure there are more, but i don't wanna spend another ten minutes listing them all. I just wanna know if i am the only person who HATES led's on every single piece of electronic, especially computer stuff.... when i have the lights off and am watching a movie, i don't want to be bathed in red and green and blue led lights...its drivin me CRAZY

...am i alone here???? ....and why does it seem like computer geeks like LED's (i don't get the need for having them on the mobo, and fans...seriosuly.....)

None of those things really bother me now (speakers/mouse/mouse charger base/motherboard/LCD/etc.) - except on my old set of speakers (Logitech Z-640's), the Center speaker was the one where all the main controls were - and it had a very bright blue LED light. Usually it wasn't a problem, but it was really distracting right below the monitor when trying to watch a DVD or HDTV show (especially when it was dark in the room)...

I'm sick of it too. Techies are supposed to be smart, we're not stupid teenage ricers. My biggest complaint is LED lights on FANS. Fans are designed the cool the computer parts, so let's add some heat-producing lights on them. Yeah yeah, the heat is negligable, but as fanatical as people are about computer temperatures I think they'd care more. Also the extra costs for running 20 lights that you can't see the vast majority of the time is stupid.

There are a couple of REALLY BRIGHT blue LEDs on some of my parts. I spend time trying to cover them up, especially at night.

Yeah, alot of LEDs on some products are pretty annoying, like the "powered-on" LEDs. For Christ's sake, I think I'm smart enough to know if my product is turned on enough. Oh and those LEDs on Corsair XMS RAM modules...God I hate those things. WHY do RAM modules need LEDs?

I don't know. For the losers who stare at the insides of their case that want to know when they're memory's being accessed. It's the difference between life and death for them choosing RAM.

I know it's minimal, but it's not too uncommon to see someone completely obsessed with computer temperature (large heatsinks on everything, 8 total fans, water cooling) and then you see 20 seperate lights on everything, which do produce heat, which seems completely contradictive in my opinion. Why not go ahead and put a TYPE R XXXTREME sticker on the case and mount some wheels on the case with rims and get it over with? Make sure they're "spinnas".

Some of these things do need LEDs, though. I will be the first to say that I don't like tacky glowing lights on everything for the sole purpose of aesthetics, however, on something such as the cordless mouse, I personally would prefer to know when the batteries are low, rather than to find out the hard way. If there was a way to turn them off, or have them only come on when the batteries are low, then that would be ok too, but how they are now is better than nothing imo.

oh yes, yes, yes i so agree with you !

LEDS on my cable-modem, router, weather-radio, razor/battery/camera chargers, printer, monitor, LAN port on the computer (!) etc..etc..

LEDS everywhere.

Even at night when i go to sleep and everything is turned off my room is lit by literally dozens of LEDs...the most obnoxious ones IMHO the ones from the cable-modem and the router....

I don't like it. There's too much light if I leave my computer on when I sleep. :D

I have a light on my monitor
The HD seek and power on lights on my case
My DW6000 modem has INCREDIBLY BRIGHT blue lights (5) One for LAN, one for Transmit, one for Recieve, one for system (always on) and one for Power (always on). The Power led is incredibly stupid considering that the other 4 LEDS wouldn't be blinking in my face if there wasn't power
My Linksys switch has 12 LEDS goind right now. (Link,Act 100 MB speeds, and Collision LEDS)
My Altec Lansings have a power led
My Printer has a power LED, low ink led, paper jam led, 10/100 connection LED, and 802.11b/g led (my printer is an HP 5850 that has built in 10/100 and 802.11b/g capability)

I really hate the lights that a device uses to show it's off, like my stereo. I thought a light was supposed to mean the device was on? It's idiotic to have a light go on when it's off. I don't know how, but somehow I'm able to discern when the stereo is off without the bright red light.

Ha! I went to CompUSA a couple months ago to stock up on plain-jane black 80mm case fans but they were all more expensive than the gawdy LED fans! In fact, the cheapest normal fans were Antec crystal clear fans (Still more bling than I wanted). Even CompUSA-brand black fans cost more. I was... upset.

Anyway, Bluetooth devices get me. My BT130 headset has gotten WAY too many looks and comments. Why attract attention to a crappy piece of ugly plastic? Maybe if it actually looked good! A movie theater usher went straight for me when he saw me walking in with it. "You'll have to turn your flasher off sir". I was turning off the freakin' phone first!

I hate the LED's on my router and DSL modem...Flickering constantly driving me insane! We have 3 PC's wired into it, and as well as my PS2, and someone is always using one or the other so it is non stop. I am just glad that I don't take to seizures, that would not be a good thing!

I have to agree, what is the point to have an LED on when you are not using a device?? The other thing I have in our house is a surround sound system, when it is off, an orange LED blinks off and on, it's enough to drive you nuts when trying to watch tv in the dark. Now it is not an issue if you are using the system, it stays on all the time then, still annoying none the less.

leds suck. espically on cases. i have a incredibly, i mean a night light llike bright hp logo, a similarly bright light coming from my satiek p880 gamepad, 7 blinking ones on my cable modem, 11 blinking no my router, red ones on my speakers, i mean, my comp room is bright as anything at night. gate them so much, i need to cover them up with notebooks to sleep in the room.
