My next video card will be NVIDIA's next offering, my Ti 4200 is already feeling slow.

Heck i waited about 3 years plus with my voodoo 3 2000 pci video card. I am just hoping the same does not happen with nvidia. Then no more driver support. That would suck. But i think the chances of that happening are not likely. Going from a voodoo 3 2000 pci video card to a Leadtek GF4 ti 4400 video card is a pretty big leap. So who knows i may wait 3 more years ago if it plays most of my games well for that period of time.

If I had a Geforce 3, then yes, I'd be waiting for the R350 and NV40, and then I'd buy a Geforce 4 :p

But I'm just running a Geforce 2, so I'm waiting for the R300 and NV30 to put the nail in the coffin on prices for the Geforce 3, and to make prices ridiculously reasonable for the Geforce 4.

depends on how my wallet is feeling and whether the new daoc or ac2 or swg or whatever really needs it.

I already skipped a generation - I still have the Radeon 7200 (64DDR VIVO).

Although is is still very serviceable, I will make the upgrade to the 9700 as soon as prices begin to drop into the "reasonable" level.

The R300 and NV30 are really next gen products (leaps and bounds ahead of the current 8500 and GeForce4) - the R350 and NV40 are just faster refinements of their respective cores. I'd say the 9700 should be good for at least a year in my box and quite capable of satisfactorily playing the next generation of videogames (Doom III/Unreal II, etc.).

I'd hazard a guess that the 9700 will offer the "best bang for the buck" for quite awhile . . . why wait?

How many months do you all think it will take for the ATI 9700 to become around $250 in your opinion ?

As I have a first gen Radeon (AIW Radeon AGP 32 megs) I will be upgrading to either the R300 or NV30. But I will probably wait for the speed ramps (R350/NV40) before getting them to help lower the price. I just can't see paying more than $200 for the video card again.

December, 2002 - or whenever the NV30 is in full production. ATI is going to make a fortune on their $400 videocards between now and then.

I will not wait for a "faster" version of the 9700 - it'll be plenty "fast enough" for ANY next gen videogame that is likely to be released in 2003.

Anyone looking forward to that new Trident video card for $100 or less i believe with like 70% performence of the R300 and 80% of the performence of the GF4 ti 4600 supposely? I am hoping it does well because then maybe finally video cards that are top of the line can come down in price when they first come out. Sorta like when the 3dfx voodoo video card were around.

I have a tendency to skip a generation and then buy the mid-grade when I buy video cards. I have a GeForce4 Ti4400 right now, before that was a GeForce2 Pro, before that a Voodoo3 3000 AGP. I'll probably skip the NV30 and either get whatever comes after that or the next revision of the NV30, probably a year or so from now, depending on what's taxing my card. I used to buy the top of the line stuff (Voodoo2 SLI for $400, baby!), but it got expensive and pointless once I hit college.

I think R350 and NV35 is a better comparison, IMO.

My Radeon 7500 is showing its age, so I'm thinking I'll replace it with a Radeon 9500. I'm hoping it will be a .13mu part, though.

Well, I have the opportunity to sell my Radeon VIVO and move up to a Radeon 9000 for nothing at all.
Considering I'd like and would USE the realVideo improvement, I think moving to the Dx8.1 compliant 9000 is a go for me.
And I don't mind that it's a little slower than an 8500..... fanless = noiseless. ;)

I'm probably going to get the Trident Xp4 if it lives up to the hype and skip the NV30/R300 generation. Then I'll get an R400 or NV40 or whatever.

Assuming the Radeon 9700 does not flop and doesn't have anything seriously wrong with it then I'll be upgrading my Ti4600.

I do not feel like waiting.

JackBurton i was on a Voodoo 3 2000 pci video card before i got my Leadtek GF4 ti 4400 video card. I can tell you one thing my voodoo 3 2000 pci video card did pretty good on all games. Even commande 4 but at the time i did not know much about different resolutions so most of the time i ran at 800x600 resolution and the default details. But i know at those settings max payne, commande 4, unreal, nascar racing games, etc worked fine. I always wondered how long will it take for a video card to not want to play a game at all. I wonder if a voodoo 3 2000 pci video card will beable to play doom 3 at a low resolution with default details. I may beable to and may look ok. I have a feeling it could. But maybe i am wrong. I bet unreal 2 it will beable to do.

Well, I'm running an GF2 MX overclocked to the very max the card is capable of doing (had a Riva TNT before) and see what the DX9 line of cards turn out to be like.
If they offer some kind of a noticably better picture (not faster, but more details etc.), than I might get one, otherwise I will go for Ti4200 and wait for the next gen.
I wonder what grafix card sales will look like when Doom III comes out :D

I'm on a GF2 Pro at the moment, and for what I do, it's OK, but I think I'll get to a new card at the end of the year, and right now, I think that looks like being a 9700.
