Yep, MS in Optics. I hope I get in but the applications took a huge jump last year and probably this year because of the economy. Won't know for about another month if I am going or not.

<---Waits patiently for news from the good old UR. :disgust:

Sorry if this is derailing your thread but I had a question for those in the CS field.

What is the point of going to grad school for CS? I'm not saying there is no point but I was just wondering. Do you get better job placement? Are there many more things you cover in your specialty? My advisor is telling me that I should do it (still a ways down the road) but I'm just wondering what the advantages are.

Thanks.

If you go to a good school and get in on some good hot projects...you will be seeing tons of $$$.

<-- just applied to grad school for ChemE after 3.5 years working.

True on both counts I guess.

How long does it usually take to get your Masters? I heard some CS people saying it would take them like 2 more years. That seems kinda short to me but I'm not sure how it usually works...

Wow. What are you doing there?

Ive been ABT since 97' but they continue to make me pay one unit every quarter so someday If I ever want to graduate I can finish the thesis and do so. They want thier money:)

I just started graduate classes in the fall. I'm working full time, and it will take me 5 semesters to graduate. Most programs only require 30 semester hours or 45 credit hours.
