After months of numerous emails form them and waiting for my freedsl service, I received this email from them earlier today.

Dear [makanani]

This email is to inform you that your modem was shipped on 07/20/2000.
You should expect to receive your modem within four days of the shipping date. Your modem was shipped to XXXX XXXXX XXXXX XXXXXX XXXXXXX
Once you have received your DSL modem you may activate it immediately (see the installation guide within the modem package). Within minutes of installing your modem you will be surfing the Internet at DSL speeds. Allowing you to play games and to watch movie and television clips, music videos, and live news and sports coverage.

If you have any questions or comments, please call our toll-free support line at 877-993-7333, or e-mail us at: support@corp.winfire.com.

Sincerely,

The Winfire Team, Providers of FreeDSL

Ok, it's cool that i've finally heard from them about the modem coming here. but if i read the letter correctly, it's saying that i install it and my dsl service will start right away. I don;t get it. I thought dsl was installed professionally. Can someone make clear of this please? Thanks.

damnit, i got that mail too. but then i had ONE problem. i gave them my sister's phone number (we have 2 phone lines), and recently, my sister is going across the country, which means her account will be cancelled. so now i have at least another month for them to re-evaluate my phone line again.

I am currently using the freedsl service, I also got my modem for free. the only clause is that I must keep the service (on my current phone line) for 13 months or i will have to pay to have the line turned off.

creedog:

Would you mind telling us step by step on how you set your dsl modem? Didn't the phone company have to re-wire your lines so you could use it? And did you encounter any problems during setup? I'm asking because I just signed on and should be installing it in the next couple of weeks. Just want to be ready for any problems.

Thanx

ronab2k - no there's no rewiring that needs to be done. It uses the existing phone line that you are on right now. The isp tells the phone company you are with to activate the "null" line that is not in use. Installation of the kit they send you is a piece of cake too. takes no more than 10-15 min to set up freedsl and have it up and running.
