works for about 5 minutes then i get a general protection error and it wants me to submit the bug to the UT 2004 people

Specs

DX9B
WXPSP1, all updates
Geforce4TI4200 128mb Dets 60.xx WHQL
Latest WHQL nforce drivers
nforce2 ultra400

have not ran it in DX, cause OpenGL gives me better performance, but i guess i will have to switch to DX, :(

OpenGL makes the text readable when I'm in the menu and looks more crisp than DX does. I do wish that they would give us the choice to choose what type of renderer we wanted to use (instead of having to edit the .ini file).

I was just gonna ask...how do you use UT2K4 in OpenGL mode?

I am gathering you have to edit some files?

I had zero GPFs before the patch, now get them randomly almost every day I play UT2K4. I'm using whatever the default renderer is for Windows.

It doesn't seem to matter what map or mod, last night I GPF'd in ONS Arctic Stronghold.

Grrr, nice patch! :|

to run in opengl edit ut2004.ini from this

[Engine.Engine]
RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice

to this

[Engine.Engine]
;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=D3D9Drv.D3D9RenderDevice
;RenderDevice=Engine.NullRenderDevice
RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice
;RenderDevice=PixoDrv.PixoRenderDevice

You shouldn't be using OpenGL unless you have issues with Direct3D. OpenGL is both slower and is missing features; it's the unofficial renderer for the game, unlike Direct3D.

It's not an official renderer, so they don't want noobs using it and then complaining when the game messes up, so they don't make it there for everyone to use to cover their own asses.
At least they give savvy people the option though, that's better than most.

even on nvidia 4200? i thought the opengl would perform better on the nvidia 4200 than dx on the 4200
