I cant get flat panel scaling to work anymore and custom resolutions are an absolute bitch to set up.

Just me?

Oh this is on win7 x64 so i suppose i shouldn't complain too much I just want to play freespace 2 full screened.

Installing FreeSpace 2 right now. Using 186.18's. Will let you know.

While it's installing, tell me what you're doing as you try to set up your custom profile.

I think max res on FS2 is 10x7 right?

Cheers Keys,

I've got the custom res set up now it was just a bit counterintuitive.

My screen setup is a bit weird, I've got a 24" at 1920*1200 and a 17" in portrait next to it at 1024*1200 (native 1024*1280).
So i was just shaving 80 pixels off the vertical resolution to make the screens match.
It wouldn't let me set it in the NV control panel, just kept failing the test, but after that it would let me set it in the windows display settings.

The 17" will let me set 'do not scale' and does so properly.
The Dell 24" just defaults to "use my displays built in scaling' and wont let me change it, it also wont do it properly so i cant get my display to 'full screen' freespace.

Its all a bit  but thats the joys of beta OS's i suppose.

i have always had to work around the flat panel scaling with Nvidia drivers - that is a continual issue for me and something i hate - doesn't matter if it is Vista 32/64 or Win7 [which i stopped using for now]

As to the drivers themselves, there is no performance difference between them and 185.85 as far as i can see

I remember having similar problems with ATI when I had my x1800, thats why I got the Dell with its built in scaler.

I'm using XP. I did notice a small bump in performance with a couple of my games (Fallout 3, Oblivion), but slightly worse performance with WoW. May not be related to the drivers though. WoW has been having issues for a lot of people since their last big patch.

Yep

ATi fixed centered timings over a year ago; about the time Nvidia's stopped working for me
- there is an annoying workaround for it - i guess Nvidia is lazy to implement it. :p

My 19x12 24-incher is budget but decent. My next upgrade to a 25x16 30 inch LCD will have a scaler built in

LOL I can't even get FS2 to run. Even using Win98 compatability mode. I have to check my configs for this one.

Yeah you need to go to this thread, run the insaller and it'll download about 3gigs. :Q

On the plus side I've sorted out my problem, I just have no idea how.

The custom res thing and this seem to be totally random.

Ah well.
