Anyone else have to suffer w/ WebCT or Sungard?

My school, in all of its brilliance has decided to use Sungard as its student portal / SISA system and WebCT as its courseware software for a number of years. I've hated sungard since the first day I set eyes on this god forsaken frothy turd frappe. Finding classes is a bitch unless you have the entire schools CRNs memorized, it is only up from 8am until 12am (8 hours of downtime per day for "backup and system maintenance") and entirely down on sundays for, what I can only imagine is set aside so that the servers can engage in an epic cluster fuck of epic proportions. Lets not forget about all the unscheduled down time (like any of the other 16 hours of the day that it never works correctly...)

I'm suppose to get e-mail through the student portal, important announcements from instructors, reminders of current events...but all I tend to recieve is large amounts of homosexual orgy porn, So either my institution of learning has gone in a radically different direction and has failed to inform me of the change or the school missed the chapter on filtering spam, and because the campus doesn't look like a gay pride frat house I'll assume it is the latter.

And then there are the joys of WebCT, seriously geocities is more robust and stable then this loose stool trying to resemble shit...And in the brillance of the college they MANDATED that instructors utilize and grade students on the use of WebCT. Sweet! I get a grade based on my ability to view 404 pages...or if the server is actually responding to requests, 500 error pages!

The one thing I remember about webCT was the stupid quizzes. I had a chemistry class that required you to take a graded, timed quiz every week through webCT. The grading software had absolutely no tolerance for round off differences. For example, if webCT thought the correct answer was 1.523E-21 and you entered 1.524E-21, you would get no credit. Eventually the TAs went in and regraded everyone's quizzes to correct things like this, but it was still a major PITA.

Is your school using Banner or PowerCampus from Sungard? I have not been around PowerCampus, but I am very familiar with Banner. If your school is having that much downtime and scheduled outages with Banner then they don't know what they are doing. I have never come across an ERP that I would call a great program, but Banner if implemented correctly is not bad.

As for WebCT, we use Blackboard and it has its glitches but it isn't that bad.

Yes, Banner on Big Iron FTW.

Thankfully, not this semester. My school uses WebCT for many classes though.

fuck webct... fuck it in its dirty aids ridden asshole

i swear to god I have never used a homework/class management software that I liked. THEY ALL SUCK. I have used webct, aplia, cengage, thompson learning, personal trainer 4, and webtutor, and some others im forgetting. they all blow. It seems like the people who design these sites enjoy making you click a shitton of tabs with obscure names to get to what you need. they are all down more than they are up. I have had at least 4 of them crash during a test/homework.

please, for the love of god, whoever is studying web design go make one of these that works. IT HAS TO BE SIMPLE. im doing enough learning while in school and the last thing I need to spend time on is on how to use your clusterfuck of dumbassness you call a website.

I hated that with our software...the first 10min of each class was basically spent bitching about the rounding issues...

I actually had a good experience with WebCt. However, we only used its more basic features, such as document hosting (lecture slides, hw, etc), grades, and the message board. Very occasionally I would run into a course that would use its online-turn in feature. Never had a problem with that.

Yeah, same. When professors want to send students a message, they use regular email, and WebCT for all those other features.

My school dumped WebCT and moved to Sakai. Open source  and sucks less.

They're slowly migrating our email to Zimbra.

But we're still stuck with banner for registration and other stuff.

Is there a difference between Blackboard and WebCT? Because ours says Blackboard (formerly WebCT). Either way it sucks ass, but I haven't had too many problems with it.

We use WebCT for online training at work. Lots and lots of modules. It's ok I guess. My office runs Macs and I haven't encountered any crashes or anything.
