Anyone else have this problem? (Abit KA7-100, Alpha P7125, Addtronics 7896A)

I'm trying to resolve a problem with the use of an Alpha P7125 and Abit KA7-100 mb in the Addtronics 7896 tower case. The problem is that the fans projects so high above the heatsink that the harddrive mounting bracket cannot be re-installed - unless I remove one of the two Sunon fans from the heatsink (not!). Has anyone else ran into this - how did you resolve the "conflict" short of mounting all your harddrives in the other drive bays?

No one has used an Abit KA7 or Abit KA7-100 with an Alpha P7125 in an Addtronics 7896A or Supermicro 750A case? That's kinda shocking....

I got a ka7-100 p7125 and supermicro, I don't have the same problem at all. You don't need to slide the hard drive bracket from the back, push do it from the side. Just get the fins in to the groves and screw down the one screw.

xizor - is your Supermicro 750A like the older 7896A style case with two (2) 80mm fans on the lower front panel, or the newer style case with one (1) 80mm and one (1) 120mm fan?

What type of fans do you have on your P7125 - Delta, YS Tech, Sunon?

Does the case have a slide-out motherboard tray or is the motherboard mounting plate fixed?

How much clearance between the top of the P7125 fans and the harddrive bracket, once both are in place?

Is the Alpha mounted directly to the CPU or is the Athlon plastic case still intact?

My Supermicro 750A has 3 80mm fans in front, no sliding motherboard. The p7125 has sanyo denki fans and the case is removed (although that doesn't really make a difference).

I'm guessing mine is not what you're talking about. On mine, the heatsink does block sliding the bracket to the left (towards the rear of the case), but it can be pushed in (towards the tray) then pulled down (towards the bottom) to get out of the grooves its in. Thus you don't need to move the heatsink.

So, is the internal harddrive bracket located (above) the DIMM slots versus (above) the CPU slot (when the case is laid on its side)?

Here's both the Addtronics 7896A and Superrmicro 750A with internal harddrive brackets in the same location as mine:

Addtronics 7896A

Supermicro

So, is the internal harddrive bracket placement in the pics above different from your case?

Just buy some $15 removable HDD caddies for your 5in drive bays you'll never regret it, & it makes it heaps easy changing HDDs arround, plus things will look heaps better under the hood.

No, the supermicro case is one I have. The bracket is held on to the case with a single screw. The farther end fits in to a ridge below the bottom 5.25 bay and then closer end is screwed to the chasis.

1. that doesn't solve the "problem";

2. I'm need more than seven drive-bays;

3. why should I have to spend another $50+ on a $150+ case?

xizor - looks like you have the older style Supermicro 750A case - thanks for the help!
