The CD just arrived. My PC can't detect the CD side at all. It just keeps trying to spin up, then it clicks, spins down, and retries a few times before giving up. Ideas? Drive is a Liteon LDW-851S with the GS0P firmware. Is this courtesy of the non-standard "DualDisc" manufacturing technique?

read the note inside, it says it won't work on all dvd/cd players
you'll have to try a different one

It's entirely possible. I have a CD that isn't detected by my dvdrw as a CD at all, except in ezcddax or eac.

CD/DVD Players. This is a DVD+-RW drive. I thought Liteon did a fair job of keeping their stuff compatible with a lot of media types, especially professionally made things.

so? if it doesn't work, then it doesn't work. try it in something else. or don't. but if you don't, you won't be watching it/listening to it

I wonder how much money they saved by using a noncompliant, nonstandard disc, as opposed to a separate CD and single-layer DVD.

Wow, my POS $35 CD-MP3 player can see the disc, but the sophisticated DVD-RW drive can't.
Let's hope my laptop can manage to do something with it.

Update: Well, old laptop, with firmware at least 2 years older than my Liteon drive - it sees the disc, no problem.
And it seems that "You're Pitiful" isn't on this CD.

I held down shift when I put it in, and it worked fine in my Artec DVD+/-RW drive.

The problem could be that it is too thick for your drive.

My Samsung CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive can't read any of the DualDiscs I have on their CD sides, only DVD. My Pioneer DVR-110 can read them just fine, both sides.
And yes, one of those DualDiscs is Straight Outta Lynwood.

You're Pitiful was released for free download I thought, since the record company who owns the rights to the original didn't want it released IIRC.

I didn't try the DVD side on the pc, the CD side worked great. I used the DVD side upstairs on the set-top dvd player, was fine.

It's not copy protection. Some drives just can't see the data on the CD side of DualDiscs, they aren't whatever color Book it is for Audio CDs (I think it's Red Book) compliant. AFAIK it's because they're a little thicker than normal CDs.

you're pitiful wasn't released cause the record company of james blunt threatened to sue. read his homepage. that's why he gave it for free.
