Anyone else have neighbors that are a COMPLETE mystery?

Hey all,

I like my quiet. I've had my share of BAD neighbors in apartments. Inconsiderate assholes. Some people seem to have no idea that they share walls/floor/ceiling with other people. I guess when you've lived in mommy's big 8,000 sq.ft. mansion all your life, you don't think about it. Well, the neighbors next door are a COMPLETE mystery. They WERE very inconsiderate, but when I called them on it (in a neighborly way) and they (they means the people who live there and all their big redneck fsker friends) threatened me, my landlord busted up in there with a blazing fury and told them that if I have ONE more complaint, they will have a matter of minutes to have all their crap out....

They are more considerate now. BUT, one little thing remains. At ALL hours, there is a pounding. It's not rhythmic, it's not that loud, and it's ANYTHING but obvious where it's coming from. It doesn't sound like someone banging on the wall. They would have no reason to anyway, as we couldn't possibly be more quiet. It sounds more like there is a cabinet mounted on the wall, and they open and slam it shut really often. --But there is NOT a cabinet on the wall. All the units are the same, and theirs is a mirror of mine. --And nothing's allowed bolted on the walls. Sometimes, it's louder than normal. Usually late at night. It's woken us up a time or two. For the life of me I can NOT figure it out!

Oh well. It's kinda like "The 'Burbs." You know that movie? So, who else has mysterious neighbors?

It's probably the sound of their bed hitting up against the wall...seriously;)

We've already ruled that one out. (the sex thing) That was the first thought that came to mind, but we have put our ears up to the wall (shame shame, I know) to try to figure out what it was, and just heard people talking about stupid stuff, coming in and out of the room, etc. Besides, it's in the master bedroom. It's a 40-yr. old woman and her two teenage sons living there. She doesn't have a man right now.

Oh, and chiseling? Doubtful. It wouldn't take this long to get through two layers of sheetrock and a little insulation.

The bright side is, we are not gonnabe in this place much longer. I've lived in this apt. for about 4 years, and we're ready for a house. We found one today that's PERFECT, and we called about it. Still waiting to hear back, but we know it's available, and we've decided that, whatever the earilest possible move date ends up being, we'll move. --Even if it means leaving here without notice and forfeiting our deposit, or having to pay rent for that month in both places.
We're getting kinda sick of the place. The carpet is old, we have no washer/dryer, our kitchen is TINY, and we only have on bathroom. -Oh, and we hate our neighbors. Plus, being in an apartment is a DRAAAG. --Having to deal with neighbors and all.
The plus side of this place is, our master bedroom is HUGE, and our living room is VERY big for a 2-BR apt. --But we're more than willing to move up to a 2-BR 2-BA house with a big kitchen, more storage, separate dining room, and washer/dryer. --Even IF it comes at the cost of a slightly smaller bedroom. Actually, though, I don't think it is. --Because the house is 2-story, and I think the whole upstairs is just bedrooms/bathroom. That leave the whole downstairs to just be living space and kitchen/washroom, etc. OR, there could be one bedroom downstairs, which would make the master bedroom upstairs MASSIVE. The house is only 6 months old. Can't wait to check it out. Hopefully tomorrow.
