Anyone else have issues with netflix DVDs skipping

What the hell do people do to these dvds. So many are scratched and dirty and are a pain to play. Watching a movie and all of a sudden it starts to jitter and jump back to the beginning. Tonight watching Cinderella Man there were some parts that were so bad, I had jump to the next chapter and rewind as far as I could to get past the skipping.

I keep a bottle of eyeclass cleaner and a micro-cloth by the dvd player as I find that I often have to clean them before they will even play.

Anyone else have this issue or is it just my dvd player?

Wash them and then use DVDdecrypter to image them to the HD and if successful you can either watch them on the computer, or TV if you have the ability, or put them back on DVD using DVDshrink or DVDrebuiler and watch it in your standalone player. This is definitely fair use so screw the MPAA as long as you destroy the disc when done.

I did the blockbuster online thing a few months back. I got a couple cracked discs and others that were pretty scratched up. I did get them fast though. Generally having a higher end DVD player is better for playing discs that have had a fair amount of use.

Little Windex on a clean white cloth does wonders. Can't expect something that gets passed around the general public and put through USPS shipping that much to stay in very good condition very long.

if it's scratched enough to cause problems in a player, most likely you can't ripped it.

that's an overly generalized statement now isn't it. I've seen plenty of my netflix dvds come in looking like someone took steel wool to it. I've had about 5-6 dvds in the past year I've had to report.

It's your DVD player. I've got a really old samsung dvd player that skips like that, but the $25 apex I bought at wal-mart will play any disc that isn't broke in half.

No issues in the couple of years I've had Netflix. Got a broken DVD once, but thats not a big deal, crap like that will happen.

I just quit Netflix and in 7 months I only had one disk that wouldn't play.

And it's amazing how f'd up some of the discs are... I think a certain percentage of renters must play frisbee with their DVD's! :laugh:

I have never used Netflix...but I have used RedBox. They skip all the time...frustrates me to no end!

That isn't true at all. The error correction abilities of a quality computer DVD drive is superior to the most standalone units. Every disc I have ever had that was scratched or damaged and skipped in my standalone DVD player was able to be ripped to one of my HDs.

I been using ehit for the last 6 months and every disc I get looks like new and no problems at all. It costs a few bucks more but I get 4 discs at a time and can actually click a button and early send back. This way I dont have to wait for them to get the dvd's in hand before they ship the next one on my list

What is this early send back you speak of? I don't have this on my 3@ a time plan

Is it scratched? If so, smear some toothpaste into the scratches. That should do the trick.

They have it set up that if your not to local, which I am not, when I stick the dvd's in the mail I go to the web site and click the button that basicaly says it is in the mail. Then without them waiting fo rit to show up send me whats next on my list. It kicks ass and I can get about 16 movies a month or more depending on how fast we watch them and get them into the box. By the time I get my new movies my retuned ones they get as well and I can do it all over again
I had all the on line movie places and I dont mind paying $19 a month for 4 out when I can rent more in the long run.

This is a sony dvd player that we are talking about and its pretty old (5-7 years). I think that I might try a one of those lazer cleaners, If that does not work, will look for a sale on a new player.

If ur a smoker then that wont work most of the time. The smoke will stick to the lense and you have to pull it apart and clean the laser with a q-tip and rubbing alcohol
