Anyone else have a "definately" reflex?

I just realized that it is literally true that when I read the word "definately" my eyes are instantly diverted with no thought necessary. I literally don't read one further word after encountering "definately" in a sentence, and go on to the next post or thread. Anyone notice such a thing in themselves?

I have no clue what you are talking about. I stopped reading when I ran into 'just'. :p
but seriously, yeah... I've never had that problem. I'll stop reading when I see a word, and my mind just wants to see it as spelled wrong, and will come up with such a detailed reason in my unconscious mind why it is wrong, but I can't pinpoint the reason consciously. And then I realize it has to be spelled right, as I see it spelled that way all the time. Then I move on. :)

Haha. I will struggle to read them, if so. It might be nerdy or overly picky of me, but I seem to just have automatically assumed at some very deep level that anyone that uses "definately" can't have anything valid to say.

My reflex is triggered mostly by people that don't know the difference between your and you're.

I have that mindset too, though not sure any particular word triggers it. If they don't know spelling ... what do they know?? Easy to disregard those types.

Iamwiz82: While I applaud you for spelling "queue" correctly, I think "cue" is the word you want. Just saying ...

Or are so concerned over a word they can't even spell, like definitely.

That happens to me in books, too. I can be cruising through an exciting novel for an hour or two then hit a typo and bam - it's over right then and there. It completely ruins my train of thought.

It's amazing how many typos make it into print, not to mention online posts.

I definitely agree on this post.

I'm one of the grammar/spelling Nazi's here, and a simple word like definitely should DEFINITELY not be mis-spelled, especially when it's the topic of discussion.

seriously, i must have played too many video games or something, because while i notice a ton of misspellings and grammar faux pas i will just chuckle and keep reading. what makes me stop reading is if the topic is boring and the first few sentences dont grab me.

I must confess. I spell that wrong all the time. I think I subconsiously just want to irritate spelling Nazis.

I hate when people use loose instead of lose. The worst part is that the mistake is made by so many people.
