god i hate going to the grocery store. i go about once a month and buy a bunch of food to avoid repeated trips. i hate getting the cart with the bad wheel. i hate that they are always out of strawberry yogurt. i hate the old people giving me suspicious looks. i hate the clerks asking me how i'm doing. i hate putting the food away afterwards, and i hate cooking the food to eat it. oh yeah, and my indoor cat ALWAYS escapes out the front door when i return with the bags. ALWAYS.

my life would be so much better if i was an anorexic. ok it wouldn't. but i do hate the grocery store.

1) Going once instead of many times increases the chances that they'll be out of strawberry yogurt. It's an all or nothing shot that way. Going once a week gives you 4 times as many chances to find it.

2) Who the hell actually eats strawberry yogurt anyway?

3) Going once a month does not help with the task of putting the stuff away. You still eat the same amount and buy the same amount.

4) No matter how often or how infrequently you shop it won't impact you having to cook.

5) If your cat escapes, let the little bastard go and count yourself lucky.

6) The clerks are trained to talk to people who look dishonest, shifty or criminal. They'll talk to you less if you have better grooming habits.

7) By shopping once a month you're not taking advantage of all the specials and are spending more money.

8) A normal supermarket has hundreds of carts and contrary to popular belief very few have bad wheels. Perhaps it's user error in your case.

nope. I like the grocery store that I do to.

it's open 24/7, so I can go on my way home from work at midnight. isles are pretty much empty, and the cashires are a lot nicer since they're dealing with fewer PIA customers at that time.

I agree...

I basically do the same thing and go up and down every isle and ge teverything for a month. I can usually buy my monthly 150.00 worth of food in about 30 minutes...

Sounds like you should get connected with a service that cooks the food for you. You just buy your 3 squares a day from them, place them in the freezer and reheat them when you're ready to eat. Sure, it might be a costly option, but going through the hassle that you are has to be worth a bit of money.

there's nothing scarier than the frozen food section after midnight. it's like there's a bright flashing sign above my head that says "single!" ;)

The only issue with doing that is the shelves may not have been properly stocked yet and the meat counter is completely picked over because the butcher hasn't arrived yet. Other than those few issues, I also prefer late-night shopping.

That is why I try and go to Trader Joes, Harris Teeter, or WHole Foods. Much better experience than the normal grocery store..and much better produce and meats

no way, those are worse. the store is always laid out in some completely illogical manner and if there's anything worse than old people staring at me, it's yuppies clutching tofu staring at me. ;) and they never have what i want, just some healthy version of it that doesn't taste as good and won't give me my daily dose of pesticides and perservatives that i need so badly. also they can be pretty expensive. but i do agree that you can't beat them for produce and meats.

They don't deliver in my area, although Safeway does. I don't have tons of money though, so delivery isn't a smart thing for me, even if it would be nice.

I didn't know Peapod was making another go at it. Back in dot-com boom my parents used to buy from them religously, but then they went toes-up and sold their assets. They were awesome, though. It was barely any more expensive than going to the store. I guess they got some more funding.
