Anyone else hate Lowe's?

Here's my story. All the windows in my house were pretty old/energy inefficient, so my dad decided to replace them. Lowe's had the best price, so we went with them. This started towards the end of last summer. Guy comes, measures the windows, and orders them. A couple of weeks later, they arrive, and the guy went 0 for 15. Not a single one was the right size. So that guy got fired, and a new guy comes and measures. He was better, but still not perfect. 13 for 15. So after that, they remeasure the window, and then tell us that they can't get us a window in that size. They leave the windows in our garage and promise to come back and remove them. Nothing happens, so my dad called up the store and got an assurance that the next day, they'd be picked up. It doesn't take Nostradamus to figure out that no one showed up. So as of right now, we have 13 of 15 windows replaced, and 2 sitting in the garage, leaving us without the use of said garage. Now we're waiting on a reply from their corporate headquarters, and unless we get those windows taken care of immediately, we're planning on taking them to small claims court for breach of contract. After all, they did draw up a contract that promised to replace those windows for a set price. If it takes custom windows to honor that contract, so be it. Anyways, I just have to say that I'm amazed that any company can be this incompentent. 6 months and 2 attempts later, and they still don't have it right. It's just so outrageous that you can't be angry. Instead, you can only sit back and laugh at them.

Sounds like a bunch of idiot contractors to me. I have had generally good experiences in Lowes.

wow, that is pretty sad. I used to work for Home Depot in the millwork dept (doors and windows) and can tell you it is not just Lowes. Pretty much everyone does this, but Home Depot is at leasy better. They have a guy who has been doing windows for 30+ years do the estimating and measuring, while low level mostly untrained guys do the install. Some places like Lowes have the unexperenced guys do both.

I can tell you that vinyl window install (or custom wood) are the easiest thing to install, ever. A doorknob is harder. the first one I did took me a little over 45 minutes, and that was because I had to replace and wrap the sill. I did a window for my next door neighbor about 3 months ago in less than 20 minutes.

If you whine b!tch and moan, you are likely to get a large discount.

The only time I really spent a lot of time in LOWE's was when, during high school, my friends and I built a potato gun. I believe we bought the "spark plug" and the pipes there. It worked out well. We got two good shots off. Then, on the third shot, the side of the gun blew off and hit my friend in the leg. After that the pieces were too cracked to work well. So long story short, I like LOWE's.

ME. And evadman knows why :p
BTW Evad, those STUPID SH!TS can't even cut wood, obviously! That too was a moronic mistake of me. Some of the cuts are off by as much as THREE INCHES. Most are off by about 1/4", and none are even close to correct size.

I have always had bad luck at Lowe's - ever since they bought out Eagle hardware, I stopped going there and started going to Home Depot. I've been much happier with the Depot. :)

I generally like Lowes better then Home Depot. The lumber is much better quality ..HD lumber is alot of sh|t, pick through a whole stack for a few pieces. And the store seems better organized then HD.
But, I've never had work done by either of them, so can't comment on that. Sounds about on par for home repair contractors though ... flakiest business around. Makes tech support look like saints.

I built many many potato guns for people while I was @ Home Depot (that and physics projects. always on a sunday :) getting a mouse trap to go 100m seemed to be popular.) . I still have a 20' gun I made that will put a golf ball through my fence.
