Let me preface this rant by saying I've been a Comcast user for many years. There internet is great, but their HD-DVR service blows beyond belief.

I don't understand how Comcast can still have essentially the same HD-DVR they have for the past decade.

No external or large hard drive, No commerical skip (unless you hack the remote or use a special 3rd party remote), No Picture in Picture, and probably the worst recording features known to man.

Now, after their latest upgrade a few months ago, the boxes have to be on to record. So when I shut off my TV, DVR and Stereo System, the Box prompts (Are you sure you want to turn off, cause you are recording). It's amazing how their old software did this without issue.

Before anyone comes in says, "Go get Dish or DirecTV".....well I have had DishNetwork. I loved the DVR, and it was badass to say the least. But Seattle lost our ABC Affliate and I had such poor HD performance on my install, I cancelled the service cause it's just horrible. Oh yeah, having to plug in the DVR boxes to phone lines to call home to Dish....yeah thats a deal breaker. Welcome to 1992. The boxes have god damn RJ45 jacks, give them Internet Connections and let them report home via that.

I would try DirecTV, but I hate the freaking investment cost to get 2 HD-DVR's from Satelite companies.

What pisses me off even more....my Parents live in Oklahoma City and have COX Cable. They have a kick ass DVR, PIP, fast, and a CRAP TON of HD channels. As it stands today, Comcast has like 17 channels in HD, + local networks. But COX has like 30, including CNN, MTV and a host of cool channels in HD.

I wish other Cable Companies would expand and provide some real competition.

I hate my Time Warner Cable DVR. That thing is the biggest piece of crap. It always misses the either the first few minutes or the last few minutes of a show. You can manually set it to record earlier, but it will occasionally look up what is being recorded and change it to back to the time in the guide (thus missing beginning or end of the show).

It also takes about 1.5 seconds to switch channels when you're watching something in HD, which is frustrating.

Comcast internet great? What planet do you live on? :p

No really I've never used it but I've heard plenty of horror stories about them screwing with stuff. Comcast sucks from all I've read so I plan to never experience it first-hand.

my cablevision dvr blows.. you can't even search for program titles, you've got to surf around the channel guide until you find it.

but the fact that it's significantly cheaper than tivo makes me put up with it.

Scientific Atlanta makes some SHITTY software for their HD DVR boxes, it's really frustrating.

I would pay $5 more a month to upgrade to a Tivo-like box.
