Anyone else had emails NOT delivered to GMail?

Lonyo

Lifer
Everyone says "Use GMail for your web based email", but I am avoiding it like the plague.
I've had a GMail account for a fair while, but I've kept using my Hotmail account for my main account.
When I have had occasion to use GMail, it's not seemed too bad, but as soon as I put any worth into it, I have serious problems.

I got a free bet from an online website (which I had used my GMail account to sign up to), and my account said an email had been sent (to my GMail address) with a code for the free bet. Only there was no email. So I click re-send. An email never arrived. I change my account email address to Hotmail, click resend. Email arrives in my Hotmail inbox with no issues.

I signed up to a different online gambling website (in the UK, where I am, so it's legal etc), and they send my account details to my GMail account, only they never arrive.

A week or two later, I order a laptop, give them my GMail account. The order confirmation never arrives. I ring up (having the order details from the webpage when I finished the order), and ask them to change my email address as well as make an alteration to the order. Then I get an email at my new email address (University one) saying my order had been changed etc.

All this happened between start of Feb and end of March, and while it may "only" be 3 emails, it's 3 emails which are important, relating to money.
So basically I would NEVER recommend GMail to anyone, especially not for anything important.

Anyone else had issues with GMail losing emails?

I've had similar issues with Gmail, on and off. It also has a weird login problem, especially on Macs. I use Yahoo as my primary email.

At my previous job we had the most problems with messages not being delivered with hotmail accounts. Gmail and Yahoo both never had issues.

spam folder?

That'd be my guess.

Some things you have to train it aren't spam. Other than that, GMail is the best email system out there by far.

I agree.
I've tested sending emails to my gmail, yahoo and hotmail accounts and they always arrive in my gmail account first.

I have that problem with hotmail sometimes too. I'm also using the Live! Mail Beta as well if that makes any difference. I had the person send the e-mail to GMail and I got it no problem.

I HAVE lost at least one email. It was a job offer. She emailed me again saying that they needed a response within the next week. It's the job I currently work at, but I'm still looking... now I'm afraid that other emails have been lost.

I've heard of the problem since the beginning of gmail, however, I had a friend of mine who I corresponded with start attaching a "sequence number" to our emails just to see if it was true. Started at one, and every time we responded, we'd bump the number up. I think we got to about 50 or so and never once lost an email.

only when using a stand alone email client (like thunderbird). logging into the website tho i have not had a problem with lost mail.

Aside from the occasional e-mail showing up in the spam folder that wasn't supposed to be there, I've not had a single problem with gmail. In fact, I pretty much refuse to use anything else.
