Anyone else getting Columbus Day (10/12) off?

I just found out my office is closed. A 3-day weekend that I did not expect!

I am celebrating by bringing a small-pox blanket over to my local casino.

our next holiday is thanksgiving and the day after thanksgiving, i usually take monday-wednesday off and make it a full week off

Our school doesn't honor Columbus Day until the day after Thanksgiving. That's how they justified it being a break for both Thursday and Friday, instead of just making it the day it should be. Dammit.
But then I do realize you can't have too many days off in one quarter but not another. It's just a bummer.

Isn't it a federal holiday? Anyway, I'm off from school. I have Fridays off, too, so 4 day weekend for me. I'm going to see if I can sleep the entire 4 days, lol.

It is a federal holiday, but most people don't have off for every federal holiday. I don't get off for MLK Jr's birthday, Washington's birthday, Columbus Day or Veterans Day. Most people don't except bank employees and (most) federal employees.

As CA state employee, Columbus Day is normally a paid day off, but the legislature voted to have all employees work that day. Controversy
