I've been getting phone calls on my cell phone, which isn't registered with any of my credit cards. I get the calls probably 3-4x a day, and the number always shows up as 727-541-0001. They pretend to be American Express and want to verify your information so that they can send you some gift certificate. Of course I never gave them any info, and a google search of the number found this.

I called American Express and reported it as well, but it sounded like the guy could care less on the phone and wasn't going to do anything. I just find it kinda stupid that no one will do anything about these goons.

This is from another site regarding these calls.

"Ok, I'm a little shaky, I've never been such an @$ on the phone before, but here's what happened. They called AGAIN this morning and this is what I got from the guy!! This could all be lies as I imagine it all is...

The guy I talked to said his name was Kevin Ross, I asked for some contact info and he gave me the customer service phone 800-858-4838 and a PO Box in St Petersburg, FL "PO Box 7375, St Petersburg, FL 33702". I googled the number and I find it linked to a company called "Traveler Innovations" Interestingly, theres this link Rip Off Report and its not pretty... They rip people off!! These are bad people, be careful! After the guy told me all this info, I told him to take me off his list, and he literally scolded me for having an alterior motive like I was a little kid or something. I told him not to sass me and again to take me off his list. He said he would do so. We'll just see if this really happens or not!"

The phone number that calls all the time is "727-541-0001". If you call it back immediately, it says the number is disconnected. Do not ever give them your credit card info. We googled the number and this guy's blog came up. Seriously, stay away from them. Traveler Innovations is also known as Consumer Innovations. Here's another blog about the scam. I hope they get caught....if anyone has $25,000 they're willing to lose, the FBI can actually go after these guys. But not until you lose $25K.....because losing $20K isn't losing a lot of money. Makes perfect sense to me.

edit - sorry if this is a repost. I searched around but found nothing about it.

I've heard of this type of stuff. Some will first send you an e-mail. Then later that day they will call you up to verify something about your credit card, including saying "did you receive the e-mail that was sent to you?" They speak your full credit card number over the phone, then ask for you to tell them the 3 digit security code (4 digits on amex cards) - as that's the only piece of information they do not have.

Side note, two weeks ago I called amex because someone placed a credit card order on a web site I maintain, and wanted the items shipped to Africa. I though I'd do the right thing and report the stolen number, and amex bounced me around from person to person, and was on hold for like 10 minutes! Makes me think twice about ever trying to be helpful again...

Interesting site. It's true that no one wants to do anything about most small crime issues. American Express doesn't care that 0.001% of their customers are getting scam phone calls. The FBI doesn't care either. NO ONE CARES!
This reminds me to the time I was scammed $600 on ebay. There was the IFCCFBI, or the internet fraud complaint center by the FBI. I had the guy's address, and a copy of the check that was cashed. They did absolutely nothing about it, didn't even get a single reply from them.

They only seemed to have the last 4 digits of my card. Though they had my address and cell phone, so perhaps they had more. I've been monitoring my card and no missuse so far though. I would just think, that with a phone number, it would be much easier than email to track someone down. I doubt they are moving their operation around as easily as a computer. Oh well, I didn't give them anything. Just a heads up i anyone gets a call from them. The next step is trying to get them to stop calling me.
