Anyone else get stutters when playing video on a laptop?

I know my laptop is more than fast enough for playing video... Inspiron 1520: T7500, 2GB DDR2-667 ram, 7200 rpm HDD, GeForce 8600M GT running Vista HP....

But I get occasional stutters when I watch videos. The sound doesnt stutter, just the video.

My desktop, E6320, 2GB DDR2-800 RAM, nForce 650i mobo, running XP... i can run several background programs and I've never had any issues in video playback, but the video would occasionally stutter while i watch videos on my laptop. Any ideas on the cause?

What decoder are you running? I am more prone to stutters on my laptop vs PC (can't figure out where the "Wait for Vertical Sync" option is), but I have no problems running a basic DScaler setup with WMP11. It could be your power management settings, but I have no problem running balanced on a slightly slower setup than yours.

Just to figure this one -
Does it stutter when you are on battery and when you are plugged in?

If it just stutters when you are on battery, it might be the cpu throttling that needs to be adjusted in BIOS settings. *Usually default setup is that it saves battery power.
