Anyone else get bored when eating alone?

Whenever I am eating for longer than about five minutes alone, I get bored and stop eating. It's probably because of this that I am skinny. I'm considering making it like a competition: eat as much as possible in five minutes, or something like that.

Also, sometimes I'm lazy and don't get up to fix myself up some food. This is going to be a tough habit to break. I don't ever miss meals, but I don't think I eat as much as I should during these meals.

Anyone else like this? Usually I hear about people eating when bored.

edit: I just read that to myself and realized I have major issues.

I need to do something while eating. I just don't like it otherwise. 99.999% of the time, it's watch TV or read a book. The act of eating itself is pretty boring.

No problem if I am home. If I go out, I usually grab a newspaper. Not that I *couldn't* eat alone, I just prefer to have something to read.

Kinda like taking a dump! ;)

Sweet Tomatoes, Monday, Mushroom soup - MMMMmmm

Sweet Tomatoes ROCKS! I really like their clam chowder--probably THE BEST clam chowder I've ever had.

I don't care about eating alone, but I certainly need something to keep my mind occupied.

Usually a book, magazine, or newspaper (depending on space). Eating alone is boring, unless it's sexy food.

I'll usually watch TV if I need to eat alone, but I don't have any trouble polishing off my meal without it.

Yeah, I usually have something else going on. We still don't have those meals-in-a-pill yet, or tasty Bachelor Chow, with flavor.

Damn crappy organic bodies. This'll be the fun future I'd like - android bodies, that we can have our minds uploaded into. Leave the fleshy, death-prone past behind, welcome in the technological future. :D

Granted, I've got a bit of a grudge against chewing, because I have a tendency to bite the inside of my mouth a bit too often, and the bites always turn into rather unpleasant ulcers that last about 2 weeks. I'd love to find some nice high-calorie liquid stuff that doesn't taste like someone just threw up into a can - so that rules out any of those protein drinks or "energy bars."

Laziness also helps me stay thin. I historically haven't liked "cooking" anything if it took much more than a few minutes. Spaghetti was lucky to make an appearance at all. (I like it pretty soft, it usually has a cooking time of about 10 minutes, or else double what the label recommends.) Other inadvertent tactics: forgetting to eat for 8 hours or more, with the only reminder being the effects of low blood sugar. Once that happens, my hands start to get really shaky, and my balance deteriorates. That's when it occurs to me that I need to eat something. I'm also the sort who tends to stop eating when I'm nervous, anxious, or mildly stressed in any way.
In a society where obesity is a problem of increasing severity, I find it difficult to just maintain my weight.

Ugh, dammit, seems I've actually lost 5lbs in the past two weeks. Lovely. Time to start stuffing my face again.:(

I don't enjoy crowds. I enjoy eating alone. Though I'm usually writing some paper assignment while I do. I know eating is necessary and all, but so often it simply feels like a waste of time and i feel like i have to do something. Even while eating supper now I'm working on a Sociology paper and these forums.

I usually destroy my food quickly unless I'm at a restaurant or big family get together.

at home, I just eat in front of the tv or computer.

I very rarely eat out alone unless I'm away on business... in any event, I either bring a book with me or just ask for a to-go box to take back to my hotel room.

I don't mind eating alone. Most jobs I have had don't allow me to go out to lunch with co-workers so I eat alone at my desk. In the evening and morning my wife and I eat together at home or we go out to eat.

Despite what TV and media might lead you to believe, TV shows like "Friends" aren't reality. People don't sit around with each other eating and drinking coffee 24 hours a day.

I'd say that's weird. You are supposed to want to eat with no additional incentive.
I actually prefer to eat alone.

I hate eating alone in public. If no friends are eating dinner with me, I'll get take-out and eat it in my room (usually in front of the computer). For this reason I'm always asking people when they're going to dinner.
