Anyone else get affected by reading or watching the news? **POLL INSIDE**

I was reading the Russian Hostage Killing story on CNN's website. This stuff is really breaking my spirit. I have hope and faith that things will get better. I know this kind of thing has been going on for a long time and humans have always committed atrociites toward one another, but the "IN YOUR FACE ALL THE TIME VIOLENCE CRIME" and senseless murdering is taking a toll on me.

One good thing, is that my prayer time has increased.

Anyone else affected by it?

Not stories like that. I am tired of hearing about car accidents and other random crap in the local news. The national news is usually just as bad. But, seeing as how I think we don't get enough international news, I don't mind that story...

I stopped watching/listening to the news a long time ago - when I had small children. Definately not suitable for them.

Nowadays I get my news from places like ATOT. If anything important happens, I'll know.

Remember, the "news" is just entertainment.

Call me heartless. But travesties happen all the time. Millions are dying in Africa and get little or no news at all. So why should one personal tragedy bother me more than that? Yes we should do what we can to make the world better (I hope you are doing something physical and not just spiritual, Chunkee). But no, I'm not going to go into a severe depression anytime the news media selects one of a million tragedies that happened today and reports on it.

not talking severe depression here, just was inquiring if people actually think about the things they see and hear on the news...after they have read or seen it

Nope, it's the reality of the world we live in.

heartless or a liar

You could always lock the door and pull down the shades and increase your prayer time but you still have to deal with reality at some point. This is the way the world is, if you don't like the news then don't watch it. Being uninformed is probably not any better but at least you wouldn't be depressed.

Of course, people think and feel empathy about the things they hear and see on the news. It's a human reaction. I used to not like the local news because it would generally have content about some random shooting death or injury. Instead, watch the world news and it?s the same thing just on a larger scale.

The world is what it is ? its good to feel for your fellow man but don?t let what?s going on in the world affect you to the point that you actually become depressed.
