In many ways...Arcade Fire is kind of like Nickelback in that they take themselves too seriously.

Anyone else a little annoyed by them and their self-importance? Like, the first album was supposed to be really cathartic because...a few members had their grandmothers die during recording. I mean, really? Grandparents dying is kind of expected. Losing someone before his or her time is a tragedy.

But yeah, Arcade Fire is the Nickelback of "indie rock."

It wasn't about tragedy, it was about death and remembering your roots.

Why do you call them the Arcade Fire but refer to Nickelback as just Nickelback and not the Nickelback? That is annoying.

Nope and comparing them to Nickleback is ridiculous

Loved the first album and saw them live at one of the first lollapalooza reboots. After that the fame went to their heads and they got an "our shit don't stink" attitude.

I also don't think they have made a concert stop in the Detroit metro area for around 6 years so that rubs me the wrong way too...

Their videos are pretty silly - can't imagine they are taking giant bobbleheads of themselves seriously. Also, their grammy acceptance speech would seem to indicate that they don't take themselves too seriously.

nope, but the popular backlash seems right on time here given the critical acclaim and hype over the new album

I have come to regard Arcade Fire right along with The Killers. Older stuff was great compared to the bubble-gum alternative they're putting out these days. Arcade Fire and The Killers both regards themselves as more "Alternative" than they really and truly are. Nickleback does this by thinking they're "Hard rock"...they're bubble-gum rock.
