I can swim but also sink but I can tread water pretty well. I guess I had too 😛

Too dense to swim....LOL, what a load of BS. Most of my surfer friends and myself are pretty lean with low body fat and we all swim like fish. Being lean and in good shape helps you swim, and some of the world's greatest surfers are Asian as well.

You = lack of skill....end of story.

bad bad technique. i'm asian and even when i was really thin i could tread water easy. even up to my waist for short bursts. its technique/efficiency of movement. theres probably a limit to how dense you can be, u are still human after all.

im 6'1, 163 lbs, 20yrs old, wrestled in high school so i'm in good shape, can't swim for the life of me.

It is proven fat people float better then skinny people. The problem is he is the skinny. Gain some weight and then you can swim or float around. I love it because I am the fat I can actually (and have done this several times) fall asleep without fear of drowning. Nothing like being suspended to get a great sleep 😀

I lifegaurd part time and teach swimming lessons... I have for quite a while... believe me... you just need to know what your doing and you can do fine... ive seen plenty of "dense" people swim fine

Yes I believe I just can't swim. I try and try but no matter what it's just like i'm too "Dense". I'm 125lbs, 5'7, african-american (mom white, dad black).

I'm sure you can learn to do it.

Fat people have a very positive buoyancy (but can require a freaking anvil to sink if they go SCUBA diving). People that are very lean will have a somewhat more difficult time if they aren't used to swimming a lot.

Black people can't swim.

Also try this. Relax and try to float on your back. If you don't relax you will sink. Let loose and become totally limp... you WILL float.

Go from there and then start to swim/float on your back. In not too long you will feel comfortable and suddenly you can swim. Sounds pretty stupid but that's the ticket.

I've done this before. When I said "if I just go motionless" in the original post I meant completely relaxed and loose. I'll be relaxed and loose all the way to the bottom, and I always seem to go down legs first. If I'm on my back, my feet always are the first to sink, then the rest of my body just starts sinking at kind of like a slant. The only way to combat this is to keep moving, but alas, one cannot always keep moving...

Contrary to what a lot of people seem to think, I have no fear of the water; I thoroughly enjoy it. I love holding my breath, and I love being underwater. I also have no fear of drowning; the only times when I become afraid is when I simply become too tired to keep on pushing my head above the water...

Bottom of the pool? No worries. It's nice and peaceful. Will I jump into a lake or the ocean knowing I can't swim for very long? Sure.

I also can swim, but it's the breaking the surface to get air that's just tiresome. If I want to keep getting air, I have to constantly be swimming upwards; any pause in this and I'll just sink further and further down... getting to the surface for air is hard enough; keeping my head above water at all times is impossible.

And for all you "I'm lean, Asian, and can swim fine noob" you've all completely neglected to mention if you sink as easily and as fast as I do

I don't buy the "fat is more buoyant" theory. It's a lot easier for me to swim now that I'm a lot more in shape...

Hehe, when I took swimming lessons a couple of years ago there was this lanky black dude who was trying to WINDMILL his way in the water. Needless to say this technique didn't get him anywhere, but in the end I was surprised that he learned how to swim.

I passed the swim test at the end BTW...

Braniac in one of thier fat vs skinny eps proved it. The fat guy laid there motionless floating around the pool while the skinny guy was having a hell of a time.

Not saying skinny dense people cant swim its just it may be hard for them then a fat person and will require more work to do so. Since I been fat all my life I have had no problems floating and swimming and even though I am fat I can keep up with the best of swimmers and in alot of cases swim faster then most. Or I should say I used to before I got hurt.

It's definately easier to swim when you are in shape.

Anyone, no matter what physical size they are, can float perfectly motionless, for as long as they want, with zero effort, by foating on their back with their back arched and head tilted back. It's technique plain and simple.

The ability to float has nothing to do with the ability to swim other than being able to save yourself when you can swim no longer.

There is simply no ehtnic group or body shape/size that cannot learn to swim. If you cannot swim, and you have no physical defect that prevents you from swimming...you can learn to swim.
