its been made obselete by the E6320 and later by the E6550.

regarding the E6xx0 series, you should only be looking at an E6750 or an E6850.

(dont make the same mistake i did, which was not adding 20$ for the E6750...)

If the store bought a pack of them for 150, they obviously aren't going to sell it cheaper. Nothing odd about it.

Won't they eventually have to clearance them just to clear the shelf space? I seem to recall Fry's doing that with older chips (e6300/e6400). Too bad they don't have a store near me...

IIRC, many distributors have sell-through contracts with the mfg. So, they will return/destroy the unsold product at some point for credit.

It's been a while since I was on that side of the fence in the industry, so I could be wrong.

I think E6550 is the best for your cash 4mb cache that has 9x multiplier and can be OCed to 3.5+ at a modest 170 bucks. even e4xxx at 120s isn't as good a deal in comparison. but then again the E2140 is the real gem in here for 75 bucks can get ya to 3.2 or so. even with 1mb cache that thing is running at 80% speed compare to E6550 but at less than 1/2 price, that's a real bargain!

What've you been smoking?

E6550 is 7x333Mhz and thus is nowhere near ideal for OC, E6750 is decent at 8x333Mhz. E4500 is great for OC at 11x200.

+1

however the E4300 is a bit hotter then the E6750. Also the E4300 is easier to overclock because of the low FSB. That means you can use cheaper ram with it.
