Anyone else feeling the effects of the tomato shortage?

I see signs up a lot of places that tomatoes are not available or only by request. Seems the snow down south killed off the winter harvest. Google turned up this story.

There was an abundance of tomatoes at Whole Foods last night. In fact there were so many different types, it took me a good 5 minutes to decide which ones to buy. :hmm:

Everytime I go to Wendys I have to ask for tomatos because for some reason they get their tomatos from Florida despite that being extraordinarily far away from me. None of the other fast food restaurants have this problem around here.

The Burger King down the street won't put them on anymore. I've sent two complaints to BK and an executive wrote back that since tomatoes were up 200% and they only bought from US companies that I could not "have it my way".

Just had a nice cheese-whopper, which came with 2 juicy tomato slices. I purchased 2 lbs of roma's for my tacos and chicken nachos last week. Ketchup is plentiful.

Nope. (south FL)

The fact that it's APRIL might have something to do with it. Aside from your local grocer wanting to squeeze another nickel out of you, what gave you the idea that everything should be available all the time?

The entire grocery operation in the united states of america revolves around this goal.

Think it's restaurants that are having trouble, I saw plenty of tomatoes at the store. They probably have a contract with a supplier that got hit with snow. Tomatoes can grow year round if the weather permits.

Just got tomatoes at the store today. Didn't notice any difference, and the price sure doesn't reflect that anything is going on.
