Anyone else excited about the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel?? Woot!!

My current WJ has about 120,xxx miles on it. Hopefully in about 2 or 3 years there is a decent used market on the new Diesel's and I can scoop one up. At least that's the plan...

This was known about for a long time now. So far, the VM Motori diesels haven't been that impressive.

The 2007-2008.5 Grand Cherokee CRD sold here wasn't that impressive. I don't think it had many buyers. It was an M-B engine, I think.

The new VM Motori diesel will have the 8 speed trans, I'd think.

Those things are monsters and fast as hell!!! Why the SRT8? Just out of curiosity just the need for speed?

The 2012 was a little slow compared to the 2010. The power increase didn't quite offset the bloat.

The ZF 8 speed should make it faster than the 2010.

My mom has the earlier GC that has the Merc Diesel. that thing is freaking nice.
she gets people asking her to sell all the time.
Too bad that engine wont come back.

I"ve seen them too pretty neat. Friend of mine has one he still gets the 25mpg on highway for that year model. This new engine is suppose to get mid to low 30's... Also he has had no issues what so ever...

It sure is. Nice. There are several versions of the ZF 8, the higher ones handling more power. Wonder how much this will tow. Can't wait to see how the SRT Chargers and Challengers perform once they finally get it. If it does what it did for the Pentastar v6s, it should be pretty brilliant.

It'll have to be the 8HP70, the 45 wouldn't handle the torque of either the Diesel or the SRT8, that's what's paired to the Pentastar.

Well, there's no 8 speed in the GC yet, so the Pentastar is currently paired with the W5A580/NAG1 Mercedes 5 speed.

8HP70 will be called Torqueflite supposedly...an old name...

Drove an old 06 CRD Liberty Limited Edition. Never been in anything that hooked up to the ground like that. I put it on the floor and tried to spin a 180, oh wow it did the 180 but didn't do much spinning. They're a bit temperamental but great vehicles IMO.

Love the diesel Jeeps.
Saw a diesel Liberty the other day, that thing is so rare I feel like I've only ever seen one other one on the road.. It's something that should have been available all along and should have sold well too!

The price of diesel plus the cost of the engine, pretty much made it a loss, iirc.

I also don't think the VM Motori engine was very good. My recollection is that the CRD Liberty was unloved.

Sorry, should have prefaced it with paired to the pentastar in the updated Chrysler vehicles, like the Ram, Charger and 300, when the GC gets its update, it'll get the ZF.

They call the 8HP45 the 845RE for some reason as well, especially when their own transmission history is pretty poor, you'd think they'd want to advertise that it's a ZF sourced trans.

I don't think most people know or care about transmission codes, we're talking general public here.
Just saying.
I actually have no idea what trans is in my car, on that note.
