Anyone else ever get mono?

BD2003

Lifer
So I been feeling crappy and I go to the doc, and I test positive for mono.

Ive only been sick for a day or two, but the doc is telling me it takes 2-3 weeks to get over. To be honest, at this point Ive had worse colds, and I'm not running a fever at all. Had a wicked sore throat yesterday, all gone now.

Did I just get lucky or is mono just lacing its gloves up to beat my ass down for the next couple of weeks?

No.
You're an idiot.

You can get it through any contact with the saliva of someone that has it. That could be something as simple as sharing a drink. In fact, that's how I got it.

Anyway, yeah, I had it in late March/April. I didn't get a sore throat or anything - just extremely tired and I had a head ache. Take it easy, it will knock you on your ass if you're not careful. I missed a lot of school because of it - I tried to push myself and figured I was just tired from that. Then I started getting sleep a lot after I was able to stop pushing myself so hard and I wasn't any less tired - in fact, it was worse. I wore myself down so much that the mono was able to get the best of my immune system. It's almost June and I still need a good bit more rest than I used to. If I get 6 hrs of sleep I feel like I did when I would get 3 hrs before - it sucks but it's getting better I think. Also, you can relapse with mono - so be careful of that too.

Supposedly 90% of people get infected with the EBV virus (that causes mono) before age 35. Most get it when theyre so young that they think its a cold. Its only supposed to be a b*tch if you get it in young adulthood. Lucky me.

I can read webmd all day long but wont learn a thing. Wanna hear from some people that had it.

I had it. Got it two years ago, in September. I was really sick for three days then constantly tired for about four months.

Well I had a bout with something 3 years ago that had me bedridden in the hospital. They thought it was hepatitis cause I had an enlarged liver, but supposedly mono does that to you too. That had me on my ass for almost 2 months, got tired in a snap.

Never did find out for sure, still waiting on the hep C test, but I doubt it.

But what are the chances of it cropping up again after 3 years?

No.

Well it would be a good idea to say you got it from a girl rather then saying you got it from sharing a soda with one of the guys on the wrestling team...

hey BD

i got this crapola back freshman year at stony brook.

I was a hefty 255 pounds for football, and i dropped to 182. I lost all that weight from mid august to mid october. I was basically all messed up the whole semester.

Granted i got over it and wasnt contageous, but for almost 6 months i wasnt myself.
