Anyone else end up keeping stuff because selling it is a PITA

Ive bought countless things over the years that I should have sold, but didn't because of the headache.

Craigslist is the best option IMO since you deal with them in person, but unfortunately its not very active in my area.

Selling on Ebay is terrible, gave that up years ago. Had a problem when I sold my TIVO to someone. It was basically brand new, but they filed for a refund through paypal without telling me why. Put a hold of 200+ dollars on my account until they investigated it. Ended up getting my money back, but it was enough to make me never trust that again.

Selling on here is OK, and Ive done it a few times. I still worry about someone trying to screw you by saying its broken or something like that. Ive never had a bad experience on here, but I also dont have a lot of sales on here.

Not to mention packing and shipping is also a pain.

So I pretty much end up just sitting on this stuff, and dont upgrade as much as I'd like to since I use everything I buy until its obsolete. Right now I have three computers, and I'd like to sell one of them before buying a new one, but its just such a pain. How do you even ship an entire PC without it getting banged around in shipping? Id have to remove parts and bubble wrap them in the case before shipping.

Anyone have the same problem as me?

We're getting ready to put the house on the market and will be moving 1500 miles away. We want to load up both cars with personal stuff and the rest has to be disposed of. Thirty years in this house and 99.5% of it has to be cleared out in one way or another. Got rid of some ancient audio equipment (that has come back into vogue) on Craigslist. Had a friend suggest the letgo app and I may start with that later today or tomorrow. We're far from hoarders but it is amazing how much stuff one can acquire over the course of many decades.

I have a bunch of wireless APs and routers that I need to sell but I've been putting it off. Plus if I see an item is going for less than $100 I get lazy.

I rarely sell my phones now. I usually just give them to family and friends. Or if I do sell it, it will be to a store like www.getorchard.com because I don't want to deal with Kijiji.

I have a few cable TV PVRs that I could probably get $70 each for, but it hasn't been on my priority list. I've actually been trying to give them away to family and friends, but nobody wants them.

I never sell my WiFi routers. I repurpose them or give them away, or just store them until I'm outta room and then discard them.

---

However, I am not a poor student. I don't need that money and have two very young kids so I'd rather just save the time than spend an hour on a $50 Craigslist sale somewhere.

It seems that if I can sell it for $75 or more I'll be bothered to put it on craigslist. Everything else gets donated to our local Animal Humane Society for them to sell or throw away.

The last few years I've gotten better at letting stuff go. Still have some guitars and electronic equipment that is still around because the people that buy that stuff are shifty potheads that I'm hesitant to deal with.

I have crapload of stuff I should sell but haven't because of the hassle. I have around eight or nine $45 Straight Talk refill cards just sitting in a drawer. I have brand new HTC VIVE sitting in a box in the basement. And games and things I bought that I never opened just sitting in the basement.

A lot of old PC parts aren't worth the shipping and insurance plus a trip to the post office. Certainly not if you add ebay + paypal fees and risk having a jerk buyer void the sale.

Like my old GTX 560ti with a bad fan -- $15-20 to ship something that's worth maybe... $30?

I used to sell a TON on here. Now I live in Europe and wouldn't want to deal with it.

I agree that the "odds and ends" little stuff isn't worth bothering with, but bigger things...sell that shit.

Another good option is "Offerup.com" I haven't sold things there, but I have bought stuff from sellers there.

I have a just from Applecare 6S Plus, unlocked, 16GB lying around collecting dirt here because people are fucking flaky as fuck. I put it for sale for $350 and the highest offer I received was $150...lol it's freaking brand new condition.

I'd rather let it die in my dresser than sell it for that low. OfferUP and Letgo are complete shit for selling high priced items.

Ive bought countless things over the years that I should have sold, but didn't because of the headache.

1. Craigslist is scary

2. eBay/Paypal is full of scammers

3. It's a hassle. You need a box, padding materials, tape, print out a label, arrange for pickup, etc. Sure, if you have all of the stuff in the supply chain ready it's easy, but how often to you normally ship stuff out?

4. Used to use FS/FT here with heatware, but it's been awhile

5. Either sell locally to people you know (friends or friends of friends), or sell on Amazon used (pretty good system) if it's something of value that can be sold through them

When the first kid came along, I deep-sixed all my junk & digitized the rest (music, movies, paperwork, games, some books, photos, etc.). I still try to keep paperless as much as possible...the family computer has a cheap AIO (for the scanner) plus a shredder, so every day the mail gets scanned into gDrive & shredded. My physical inventory has been greatly reduced. We use a blueprint for each room (i.e. what belongs where - everything must have a home, which makes cleanup easy) & all of our storage boxes are labelled & the contents are in a gDocs spreadsheet. It was a lot of work (making that many decisions is a major headache), but it's awesome being organized & being able to stay that way. My hoarding days are done! lol

The one thing I ever sold I've regretted ever since. I sold all my Nintendo games so I could go to the beach when I was like 10 years old. I've rebought most of them since I love collecting them now, but I've spent far more than I ever made from selling them.

Since then I've never understood people who sell off their possessions seemingly every opportunity they get. Don't get me wrong, I love buying things for cheap from these types of people, and I guess if you need money, you need money. I've been fortunate enough to personally never have to sell anything just to pay a bill. I have a friend who will talk about games he's excited to play on a gaming console he just sold to someone the year before. He wonders why he's always broke. It's because you've bought a resold your Wii U three times without making a profit. That's a $600 Wii U you've got there.

I do have a lot of things that are actually not working. I really should get rid of or at least sort what's what so my significant other doesn't have to stress over all of it if I ever die. I'm not a hoarder, though, my house is just too small so it looks like I am. I really just need another room or two lol

I just don't have things to sell really. I have what is essentially a 1BR apartment's worth of stuff, with some other items that just need 1 large storage closet. Oh and a bike hanging on the wall. I just have too many clothes, but those I'll just donate.

I'm not sure why people list complaining about having to pack stuff to sell it. Just have a local shipping store pack things for you. I sent back a pair of expensive headphones out the other day in for repair, my local shipping store packed it for me for mere dollars.

Unless you are running a low margin online store, where paying for packing would eat at your already thin margins, just pay for packing. That's the most annoying part of selling or shipping stuff anyways, so just eliminate that step.

it's hard to sell used stuff in my country and especially my region. If you can auction off and ship, it's a bit easier, but shipping is so expensive that it isn't usually worth it.
Still, I'm a cheapstake so my stuff is already obsolete and I'm not even thinking about upgrading.

I only sold something once but it wasn't used really, just a wrong gift, and it was worth a bit.

Yes, it's a PITA trying to sell stuff via eBay/Craigslist/OfferUp/LetGo.
Sold a Epson WorkForce 1100 (new in a box, sealed) locally after buyer haggled down to $160, from my price of $200 (paid $80 at Staples).
Wanted me to drive 30 miles north to deliver meet him near their location. Told them local sale only (<5 miles) and cash. My other items at OfferUp have offers at half/third the price I'm asking for. o_O

I'm lucky to live near MIT and in a high-tech area. I sell some stuff like video cards and phones on Craigslist and easy to meet folks to sell them.

Have plenty of older crap not worth the effort to sell online. However, MIT actually hasn't a flea market on the weekends where you can bring all of your old crap to sell. Never really looked into it, I think you need to pay a small fee to be a seller. Should do it some time to get rid misc hardware.

I have a stack of stuff I need to sell from various hobbies. I'm lucky enough that most of my hobbies have large forum bases with classifieds that work well. But then I have to take pictures, answer tons of questions, field PMs constantly how someone wants whatever and will send the money but don't and finally ship it out during work hours.

I carve out a week or two a year to unload lots of stuff and subject myself to the gratuitous torture. If I can't get at least $60-70 out of something I just give it away to friends or salvation army.
