Just got a grocery store job, 3 days a week, as a produce clerk. Restocking, cleaning, washing produce etc... I AM going back to school so it's not like a permanent job. Still feels a little odd at 29 to be doing this I suppose, not that there aren't lots of older people doing it. Still, because of my emotional problems it's better than nothing.

Only time will tell. So far I've been staying at the same level somewhat.

I was a produce clerk when I was a sophomore in college... at age 19
It's easy work though and the work tends to be very independent.

IT jobs. Started in small company, changed to large medical company, now at energy company. These are all interships, the pay scale dipped for the second job but now I'm at a much better pay lol.

22 and one more year until grad.

Nope.
I did the crap jobs earlier on. My time spent working at Walmart served me well, as motivation to never have to work at that kind of job again. ;)

"Which toaster is the best one?" And then they walk out with the $6.43 toaster.

"Where are the zero-watt nightlight bulbs? I know they're here, I've bought them before."

Oh, and did I mention that it was a Walmart?

Nope. Now I get to sit at a computer and mess with electronics, and people still think I'm some kind of computer god because it doesn't take me 15 minutes to find an e-mail, because I can use the Find tool. Oooooh. :awe:

Nothing wrong with getting back on track. Lots of others whine about their situation and try to mooch off the government.

I turned down a job at Safeway cause I didn't want to work cashier, got a number of other cashier jobs calling me to after dropping off my resume. I Purposefully didn't submit my resume to Walmart.

I did the cashier thing, too. That really sucks. At least if you're on the floor, that's a bit better.
But the cashier...you are the last obstacle before the customer can leave. It's your fault that they're late for their kid's school play. It's your fault that it's not coming up at the right price. It's your fault that their credit card was declined because they suck at basic math. It's your fault that someone's holding up the line because they're buy 40 different varieties of catfood, and you've got to scan every single one, because using 40+Qty would screw up the inventory system's counts.

Hell no, not again.

Reading comprehension fail.

To the OP, there's no shame in taking a crappy job because you need one. You do what you need to do until you can get something better.

So far I've only gone forwards. First job at 16 was min wage @ 5.15. Got raises up to 7.50 working at the same fast food job during high school. Went to $8 doing retail at 18...left there making $10 as a manager plus commission during college.

Got a real job before graduating making $21/hr as an IT service engineer and I'm getting a lot of overtime. We are moving buildings and I'm in charge of making sure all the IT stuff among some other minor stuff is setup. Literally I'm calling all the shots. Answering to my bosses boss. My boss is out on medical leave for the next month. Cool, yet tiring at the same time.

I'd say going up for me. I'm only 22 though so time will tell.

Wow...when did 29 years old become "later in life?" IME, I actually grew up and became an adult somewhere b/t 27 and 30 years old. And that was a long time ago. As in more than a decade.

Oh wait, I forgot that I'm on ATOT, where everyone is a freshman in college, dates only women 5'3"/120lbs or under, makes $100K/yr somehow and has already experienced everything life has to offer. :colbert:

In my adult life I've had to work 2 jobs many times to make ends meet. Mistakes I made as a young man have haunted me for many years. Let's be honest: Child Support and a bitter Baba Momma are Vultures that will forever circle overhead, denying you any hope for happiness and normality.

I've worked WHATEVER job was available at the time in order to make ends meet. There is ZERO SHAME in being a responsibe man! If you're doing whatever it takes you are miles better than those that do the bare minimum to get by and hide from their responsbilities.

Good on you for taking care of business!

I've dropped in and out of university 5 or 6 times due to my emotional problems. I have about 1/5th of a general science degree in random credits, mostly university level math courses. I'm going back to do an IT degree at a polytechnic school / college.

I haven't read through the thread...but I can echo this...

You got start somewhere and some peeps get a better start but 'in my experience' it is what you make it.

Going through totally bad times make you stronger than the guy next to, not to say your experience is 'bad' but to say that you went through a precised 'bad time' will make one humble and stronger in the end...

dude, you live in vancouver. doesn't the government give you free health care and an apartment? your $7.70/hr would be equivalent to $22 here with those benefits. stop complaining
