Anyone else disappointed over Canon's new S500 ELPH?

I'm waiting for Canon to release one that will let me take movies for as long as the card will hold and then I'll be sold. Had a S200 and the 10sec movie captures were cool but way too short.

Bigger CCD, same small lens = noisier images. Thanks, but no thanks. Those in the market should stick with the S400. I will continue to wait for more dSLRs to some to market.

I don't understand the relationship with lens and noise. I notice that my S230 is grainy when taking night time pictures in manual mode

That's caused more by low light/exposure and shaky hands than anything else.
Personally, I'm waiting for the SD10 to drop in price and maybe get at least 2X optical zoom.

I left the aperture open for 2 seconds and had the camera resting on a table. I'm probably trying to do more than what the camera is designed to do.

5 bux says that it looks exactly like the s50... actually make that 100.

i have a s50 - excellent camera and noise really isnt a big issue for me... the entire noise thing is really blown out of proportion IMO.

and you have it wrong, a bigger ccd will tend to decrease noise and the lens has nothing to do with noise. the same size ccd with more pixels will tend to increase noise.

had the s400 since around last year March. the s500 is kind of disappointing. it's not much smaller... well okay.. but then again, with sony coming out with their 2.5 inch lcd and 5mpixel, and so thin, back in Sept.2003 (asia release), and then the other bummer is the video capture limit is still 3 min only max. Should be at least limited by card space.

Their newer ones can capture up to a couple minutes. By newer ones, S400, SD100 and such.

If you want good movie mode, Sony has everyone beat.

Did you also manually set the ISO to the lowest setting (I think it's the same as the S200, ISO50)?
