I think this primary season has turned me into a racist misogynist... lately, any time a female or african american talking head starts doing their thing, I've just been automatically tuning them out. :(

Hehe yeah, I get sick of anybody who claims to represent a protected group crying about how they are oppressed. It is the same old song and dance.

As for identity politics? Get used to it, that wont go away anytime soon. I really think it is built into our DNA and how our brain functions. We are a pattern oriented species. Thus we tend to group things naturally. Blacks, whites, hispanic ect ect. Gay, straight, bi-sexual. Right, left, communist, libertarian.

People love to play the group game, then get offended when they are put into a group.

People have been taught to hate themselves and thus have no center. They always externally identify with something that is locally popular so as to feel better. Then when what they identify with comes under attack they become frightened, defensive, and dangerous, because the attack is just like telling them they are just like they really feel, worthless. You are no more immune to this than anybody else. That's why the phenomena annoys you so much. The majority identifies with that one group that is most invisible, the majority, because the majority is what seems to be normal. Buy you are all freaks compared to the person who has self love and a real center, complete and utter freaks. But of course nobody blames you for what you are. It had to be. You are loved and have been forgiven.

Yes, it is starting to become a little too much to bear recently.
I, like you, have tuned it out for now. But I'm sure I will jump back into it in a month or so if a clear set of winners imerge.
Then .............
this summer it will most likely be forgotten again for another few months, (by me anyway), due to pleasant weather bringing me the ability to ride my Harley, go camping and ATVing. Then I'll get back into it around Septemberish.
Hey, maybe it's a seasonal thing after all, no?

I don't really have a horse in the race, so to speak... I can't imagine a world in my lifetime in which an openly gay man could run a competitive race to be the president of the united states.

but at least with a white male, there's no voice in my head thinking "oh, they're supporting Hillary because they're female," or "they're only a paulbot because they're martian."

News Pundits like beating dead horses. If it's not Demographic Group, it's Baby this, Missing Child that, Celebrity X, etc etc.

Really? How old are ya? If we live another 40 years, I wouldn't be that surprised to see it. Of course, it would have to be the Perfect Storm of a candidate, the way Obama is. Young, very intelligent and academically accomplished, highly charismatic, not too radical policy-wise, no big tarnishes on the record, etc. And probably most importantly, s/he would have to have the personality of "mainstream gay" as opposed to "hollywood gay." Rupert Everett, not Nathan Lane, like Obama is more Wayne Brady than Snoop Dogg. Something the rest of America would look and exclaim in shock the way O'Reilly did when he made it to Harlem, "oh, they're just like us!" I think as the next generation or 2 comes to power and the old foggies start dying off, we'll see gays/women/other minorities take correspondingly larger places in national politics.

I could see a lesbian VP go on to run for president, but I think Hillary's the closest we'll ever get to a gay man ;)

Didn't you see Knight Rider the other night? The lead detective is surfing, heads back to her home, where some blonde chick one night stand is in her bed, and then it's off to the office. And not another mention the rest of the show (to my dismay :))

I don't think it's as unlikely as an atheist president anyway.
