Somewhat of an off-tangent question, but is there a successor to Cortex-A53 on the horizon? I am wondering what mid-range and budget products might be in the future when the flagships lean towards custom SOCs.
The A35 looks to be the little core of the future, but it isn't a direct successor to the A53. But custom silicon doesn't mean it doesn't work for budget phones, as they can just use cut down custom SoCs or use last year's parts. Qualcomm has done that for a while.
On topic of the thread and low-end phones I stopped on my way home yesterday to buy a cheap Lumia 640 just so I could install Windows 10 mobile on there and try something new. The OS is a big improvement on Windows 8.1 mobile, it is what Windows Phone should have always been with a clean apps drawer and notification toggles. And holy crap is phone is way way nicer than any Moto E or other super cheap phone. I would take it over my old Galaxy S2 for sure.
