I know I stand the chance to get flamed for this and accept that
however this has been burning in the back of my mind for a while now and I just have to ask some others who are possibly "in the field" that hopefully have had or are currently expereincing something similar.
When I first took the job with this company it was still in startup mode, it was a remote site of a large company, and there were two upper level ITers, one the director of the department and the other amanager for the development side, both were women and both were friends who worked for a previous company..I was hired on with two other women, one of which was another friend of theirs from that same company, at that point the department was small and I assumed things would diversify as we grew....
Well here we are two years later and now all of the five higest site IT positions are held by women and the most recent one hired (who has no bearing on me because she will manage most of the development side) who I got the chance to see her resume has in my opinion no experience, a low level degree, is a year or two younger than I am, and will be managing mostly people ten years her senior most with masters level and a few PHDs, needless to say those guys aren't too thrilled with the prospect.
In talking to upper management I get the vibe that none of the men working for them are competent enough or developed enough for a promotion wheras they are all ready and willing to promote most of the other women...
I don't think I have to spell out what I think is going on here, and I have already started looking for other employment and or a transfer as so far as I can tell we are the only site in the company that has this issue, but I was just wondering if anyone else has come up against this specifically in IT and if not other areas and how things played out, we are getting reorged next year so that might shake things up a bit but for me january is too long to wait.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
