Anyone eat normal, non-illegal mushrooms? Ex - Sheepshead?

I decided to take time off work and smell the flowers, so I went out looking for mushrooms cause a few people I work with were busting my bawlz cause I don't get sheepshead mushrooms.

I found this furry ass, cauliflower looking thing growing on a tree. It weighs about a lb. and it seriously looks like white cauliflower. I'm in western Pennsylvania.

No bull****, but is this thing safe to eat? I can't find one friggin picture of what these things look like.

Well, a few weeks ago we had some amanitas muscarias, which are completely legal except prolly not if one was so inclined to consume them... 😉 😀

i find it funnay that you have to emphasize "normal and non-illegal"

Cause as soon as I said mushrooms, I knew what would happen. 😀 SHROOMS!!

At any rate, I have this mushroom and I have no idea what the hell it is yet. Nothing looks anything like it. I thought it was a sheepshead, but I am wrong.

I've been known to eat a morel now and again, but nothing serious. Uusally I just look and take pictures. Your white cauliflower thing might have been an aborted entoloma. They start to make a mushroom, but most of them get aborted and end up kind of blobby looking. If that's what it is, it's safe to eat, but I don't think they are particularly tasty. Never eat any mushroom unless you're absolutely sure what it is, and even then be careful, because many mushrooms have chemicals that some people can have reactions to. A good mushroom book is Mushrooms Demystified by David Arora. It's very in-depth with lots of pictures and good descriptions. Good luck!

Listen to this man. 😉

DO NOT eat it unless you for SURE know what it is. Even then, the fungi kingdom is full of trickery.. there are many lookalikes.

I did a little research, and I think what you have is actually a Sparassis crispa. If that's what you have then these are edible and supposed to be very tasty. If you plan on eating this thing be absolutely certain you have a positive ID.
