Personally I'd pick up a Haynes Manual for your car, easier for people new to working on their cars for the first time 🙂
 
If brute force doesn't work, you're not using enough. 😉

Seriously though..just look at it -- my car (1998 Corolla) was easy to figure out..most of it just pops off..be careful not to break any clips, though.
 
Why do you have to remove the entire dashboard for a switch ?

The center panels pop in and out, if this is what you mean.
