Anyone done a clean install of Windows XP w/ SP2 slipstreamed?

I'm getting ready to re-install (cleanly) an old PC for my grandparents to use, and am planning to slipstream SP2 into my Windows XP SP1 (or is it SP1a...can't remember) and burn a new CD that is basically Windows XP SP2.

I've read the multitudes of horror stories, and I'm just wondering if anyone that has had problems has performed a clean installation with a SP2 slipstreamed install and had them cleared up?

Thanks either way!

Used a Windows XP SP2 slipstreamed CD to do a clean install and everything ran through without a hitch. I'll give it

I've done a few fresh installs using splistreamed sp2. All of them have worked 100% perfect with no issues at all.

Seconded! I made the slipstreamed CD the day SP2 came out, and it's been just fine.

I used Autostreamer and it worked fine. I wasn't interested in the features of SP2, but rather in the convenience of a clean install with SP2 slipstreamed: not having to do any updates (for now), and not having to install DX9 separately.

Thanks for the feedback RalfHutter, Sideswipe001, and pelikan! :)

pelikan I'm of the same mind, I just rather have everything already in the original install without have to go through all the Windows Updates and the processing time it takes for them to be applied.

I think I have my answer: If your about to build a new PC or redo and existing one, making a new Windows XP installation CD with SP2 slipstreamed in is the way to go (unless of course your using an app that cannot outright work with SP2).

Now, only if there was a way to slipstream Microsoft Office 2003 updates into the original CD's... :)

Thanks again all! :)

Slipstreamed my latest build. No problems so far. All my day to day programs work.

Here's a thread with some more info on this.

In a nutshell- for me SP2 as an update created very annoying problems, but as a sliptstreamed clean install it runs smooth as silk.

Thanks Agamar and Slogun! :)

It seems like if one is installing fresh (as I will be) there doesn't seem to be many troubles...however installing on top of everything understandably doesn't work for all.

Glad I held off on my home PC!

Thanks again!

Davegod75, osage, Schadenfroh, and Brahmzy, Thanks for the feedback! :D

Davegod75- Sorry to hear about your difficulties...I've got an advantage over you probably: This hardware is so old - K6-3+ 450 on a TS1598C2 and a Voodoo3 3000 AGP - that Windows XP original has basically all the drivers for everything in the system...meaning SP2 will likely have everything period I'll need to get the PC up and running.

osage- Thanks for the link! I'll have to find out if my CD of Office 2003 already has SP1 in it or not...I can't remember. If it doesn't, then that link will work great...heck, even if it does, I'll put the Hotfixes in there too!

Thanks again everyone! :)

I did a clean sp2 slipstreamed into my Winxp pro no sp cd using nlite or ntlite, whatever its called. The image is a lot smaller than when i tried sp2 on a winxp pro with sp1 cd. I just did an install, which worked perfect. Also that office 2003 slipstream is great, I remember doing that one a while ago. I love being able to make these cd's that basically auto install everything and no more stupid keys to write down or remember.
