Anyone done a Charter self-install?

I've got a relative moving back from out of state and she'll be in Charter territory for HS internet. Her only choice actually.

The condo already has lots of outlets for cable TV so this should be a breeze. I was just wondering how Charter does this? Mail out a kit?

Is there software that must be installed for initial connection? I'm thinking I'll have to talk with someone on the phone to give them the MAC address of the Router.

Two XP machines. Modem and Router already purchased.

If it's anything like the cable internet where i live it's pretty simple.

call them up and give them your cable modem info. You don't have to register anything about the router, as far as they are concerned, the router assigned IP is your only computer connected.

Take their software bundle they will say you 'need' to install, and put it in the nearest trash can.

plug in the cable and power on your modem, plug in and power up the router, plug in your computers and boot them up. WinXP will automatically connect you if everything is working and done correctly.

I don't know about the cable company there, but that's what they come in your home and charge you $50 or so more for... self install is no problem.

I'm wondering about an email address. Over the phone, or at a website? I guess I'll find out when I call with the modem info.

I most certainly did want to avoid any software install.
