Anyone doing the Pentium D805 overclocking thing?

I'm referring to this article.

I realize that their 4GHz final speed is essentially impractical and impossible w/o watercooling. But, 3.3GHz at a nice standard 166FSB memory divider looks mighty tempting for $130! A better HS than stock would probably be in order...that would stll have the total for the CPU/HS under about $160 or so.

I realize that the new Core Duos are freaking super, but this doesn't look too bad either. Just wanted to see if anyone's running a nice OC on the 805 and what they think.

There's a handful of people are doing it, but when you can get much faster performance from an OC'd 6300 for not all that much more money i doubt many are going to be going for it in the future.

Yep, been reading about the great overclocks on the 6300's but they are still new and motherboards for them are $$$. Decent MBs, anyway.

GA-965P-DS3 is only near $140, and GA-965-S3 is near $100 ... if u donrt wanna blow a lot of money get that , they can do pretty much everything the P5B DLX can do for a cheaper price .

GA-965-S3 $116

not a lot of peopel tested conroe with 945 , so get 965 boards

It would, remember just how little CPU power you need in the first place.

Not many people got too excited about Pentium Ds here, since for slightly more, one could get an A64 X2 that only needed a light OC to beat every Pentium D out there, even that 805 @ 4 GHz, which very rarely actually happened on air in reality.

It's the same story now with C2D vs. A64 X2.
Excepting upgrading AMD users, there's not much reason to go to A64 X2s, since for a bit more, you have an E6300 that can easily OC to beat anything AMD has to offer.

Thanks, N7. I definitely know that the A64X2 is dead in the water, compared to the C2D. I'm looking for bank for the buck this next go-round.

Seems that a lot of the MB's for the C2D are buggy as heck; I'm sure bios updates and board revisions will fix that though. I may wait a little longer.
