I'm looking at getting an electronic speed controller for a project....and in the description of some of the speed controllers, it specifies "for 23 turn motors" or something to that effect.....what does that mean? Any insight ?

the lower the turns the faster the motor. A speed controller for 23 turn motors is for basically stock motors and is usually pretty cheap. Buy one that is made for modified motors that has no limits on the amount of turns the motor has and you'll be set. They cost more but it is worth it. Or go brushless.

lower turn motors draw more amps, so would overload a speed control not designed to handle the draw. unfortunately, i don't know how many amps any particular turn motor can draw.

Go brushless, more expensive but virtually now maintenance ever on it for a very long time and in most cases a hell of a lot more power to $$ out of pocket over time as well.
