Anyone cross the TJ border lately? Passport required or not? (non-hispanic)

Just wondering, don't have my passport (expired) or by birth certificate handy, do they require them, plan to go today and head back before 10 pm or so...
 
My friends went to Rosarito... one of them brought it just in case but they never checked... so i guess just bring your license.
 
Just bring your license unless you are hispanic looking then they might scrutinize a little more.
I'm Asian and on the way out they asked me if I was a citizen(yes) and what was I doing in TJ(fun) and that was it.
This was last week by the way.
