Anyone completely surpassed your family education-wise?

I'm not even close. I have my B.A. from UT-Austin but am currently looking to apply for '07 Admission into a [good] MBA program.


- My sister has an M.D. from UT-Southwestern (B.A. from UPenn), has just completed residency, and is working on becoming a fellow.

- One of my cousins is in the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston and will get her M.D. in a couple of years.

- My dad has a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Tennessee.

- My uncle has a PhD from University of Minnesota in Chemical Engineering.

- Another cousin completed his MBA from Harvard a couple years ago.

- Another cousin is starting her MBA at Texas Tech and is still trying to learn English.

- Two other cousins are in UT-Austin and should get their degrees in the very near future.

Everyone in my extended family is pretty much a PhD, MD, or lawyer. I'm far behind with my MS.

those are the highlights. my dad has 8 bros and sisters, only 1 has no degree. everyone on my mom's side has a bachelor's.

Yes. I am the only person in my family with a masters degree, and the only person to have successfully completed an engineering degree.

I agree that someone is no inferior simply because of formal education.

But there is nothing wrong with being proud of your education. No offense, but if you think that being proud of education and putting value into knowledge is wrong, I think you yourself need to get educated. Knowledge is a good thing. But yeah, don't put down others or assume you're "better" just because you have a bunch of degrees.

Both my parents never finished high school, and I guess my ancestry is a long line of working class/peasants in S. Korea. But my sister and I have the same level of education (J.D.)

If your parents are both idiots and worthless, I'm not sure why you "surpassing" them in school really matters too much.

Nope never. My gandfather was a Phd physicist for Bell Labs. He had patents that made the microwave possible. He also spoke four languages and built his house with his bare hands. I'll never be as smart, cultured or well-rounded as that.

My dad has an accounting degree from UC San Diego, mom has a degree in History and was half way through her Masters of Architecture degree when I was born.

My brother will probably be going to college on a baseball scholarship (has a few years to worry about it).

Cousins went to Wharton, Standford, Western, Mcgill.. and many are now in law or med school.

come from a pretty well learned family, so I porbably won't surpass them.
