Anyone collect Vintage Watches?

GasX

Lifer
I am in the process of getting my first "nice" watch and in the process of deciding on what I want to get, have come accross numerous vntage watch websites. There are some really neat old watches out there and am wondering how many horologists we have out there and how large their collections are.

Yeah, but I have never seen him mention old watches. I PM'd him about the thread regardless... 🙂

I don't have anything TOO old. My oldest watch is probably this Tudor, which I believe dates from the mid-50s. I also have an old Seiko Self-Dater that I think is about 45 years old. I enjoy both watches quite a bit.

Vintage watches can actually be quite a good investment, though normally the ones that will really hold their value or even appreciate can be spendy. There are some well-known watchmakers whose vintage watches are more appealing to me than their newer models (I'd rather have a 60's Omega Seamaster 300 than a new Seamaster or Planet Ocean, for example, and I prefer the older Rolex Explorers to the current model).

You might want to PM Bozack - his knowledge of fine watches is far greater than mine (although he and I don't always see eye to eye on other issues, particularly politically).

You'd be surprised Vito, as I have had a serious change of heart with some of my political musings, heck I even voted for a democrat this past election, but looks like he is going to kill the middle class on taxes which unfortunately I fall into...

As for watches I know a bit about vintage but not enough to give advice...you might want to try www.timezone.com or www.watchuseek.com, or www.thepurists.com...those guys know alot more about vintage than I and are ready and willing to help.

I am developing a sickness. Since getting my Ball, I have acquired a Shturmanskie (first watch in space), A Poljot Alarm, A Zodiac Sea Wolf. I am hoping to get a Bullova Accutron Astronaut next if the price is right.

Glad I am not coveting REALLY expensive watches... :Q
