Anyone catch the price is right today?

I got back from class and my roommate was watching The Price is Right. Anyway, a new contestant is called up. For his first bid he says "I've been waiting my whole life to say this Bob... 420". Bob Barker was either oblivious or ignored the reference. He wasn't even close

For the second bid, on a slightly pricier item, he bid 1420, again, far away from being right.

For his last bid, it gets to him (now the third contestant in line) and he asks "what was the last bid?" Bob told him and he stared off into space for maybe 30 seconds then said, 420 Bob.

The funniest part is, he actually would've won with 420 if the woman after him hadn't bid 421.

According to Steven Hager, editor of High Times, the term 420 originated at San Rafael High School, in 1971, among a group of about a dozen pot-smoking wiseacres who called themselves the Waldos, who are now pushing 50. The term was shorthand for the time of day the group would meet, at the campus statue of Louis Pasteur, to smoke pot. Intent on developing their own discreet language, they made 420 code for a time to get high, and its use spread among members of an entire generation. While our teens feel that they know something we don't, you can let them in on the fact that it was your generation that came up with the numbers.

A quote from one of the Waldos in the High Times article states, "We did discover we could talk about getting high in front of our parents without them knowing by using the phrase 420."

edit: there is no 420 police code, thats a myth, 11300 is narcotics (966 is drug deal) in the list i found

Heh, I bought something for $4.20 on 4/19 and told the store clerk: "Kind of weird, huh?"

Once he remembered what day it was, he told his manager that he couldn't come in the next day. 😀
