So they have an adaptor for socket (A)M2 which is all fine and dandy, but here's my question?

How the hell do you fit DDR2 into a DDR slot?

the riser card that the cpu slot is in has the new memory slots - so the riser card will be around the size of a large graphics card like a 7800gtx or something like that - these should automatically override the older slots if it detects a riser card with new cpu - or will probably have an option in the bios - but im betting that it will automatically over ride since the new cpu will not/should not work with the older ram

Ahh. Somehow I managed to completely miss the riser card slot when I was looking at pics of it a while back.

i would say pretty good - my abit nf7s v2 has died so i may just pick up one of these mobos and a sempron just to keep my 9800pro going as a secondary setup (just bought a 4800+ with a8n32 deluxe and sli 7800gtx {thats right 2} to replace old system)- and i may just invest in a riser card with a new cpu and some ddr2 later on

im sure loads of guys who have this mobo will buy the riser card and just get a new cpu and ram when the time comes - well most guys can also make the switch to dual core this way too ie the guys with single core socket 939 can go dual core AM2 with new ram

my bad - i should have typed a 3000+ - but socket 939 semprons will be available when am2 comes out as well - was a mistake on my end - sorry bout that

and even though the 3000+ has been discontinued my supplier still has stock of those - but ill get the cheapest cpu i can just to have this as a secondary setup

My question is, how do you put a cpu, a coulpe gigs of memory, and an XP90 on a riser card? I don't see that happening with enough room left for a video card. This is assuming that it didn't just rip the socket off the motherboard.

The slots/socket/other components of the riser card would be on the opposite side of the other expansion cards; that is, pointing upwards in a tower case. I still don't know how well you might be able to mount a huge heatsink (both for the size and weight), but there should supposedly be room. They've made riser cards for older motherboards before.

yep - synthdude is correct - the heatsink and also ram point upwards - cos when you remove all your old stuff that leaves space up there - go to the asrock website and have a look at the riser cards they have for their older boards then you will have a fair idea of how it works

i dont have the mobo - was just looking at reviews when i was considering to buy it - thus the jumper information is also useful that helps in a buying decision which i had no clue about - but now im aware of it - thanks greenman

ps xp90 will not fit on any AM2 cpu - afaik and judging from pics of the socket it seems like they have a different arrangement of mounting holes - seems like they going back to 4 now - will see if i can pick up that pic for you

Just did a count, there are 40 jumpers to move when installing the riser card. It's set up as 4 groups of ten, and they are all on 2-3. The riser requires they be moved to 1-2. I don't know why they didn't just glue all of them together into 1 plug.

well that might create a problem when you have to move them - or they may need to supply a new plug to use with the riser - may just add a bit to the costs - its easy to move jumpers
