My final year at college has afforded me time to take bowling classes. When I started I was absolute trash, but over the school year I have been steady improving. Today I broke 200 for the first time, with a score of 211 :D

Anyone else in here care about bowling? Do you guys hook it? Bowl straight? Play leagues?

When I grew up my family and my best friend's were into bowling. Leagues, etc. I was never in a league but I had my own ball, custom fitted, of course, I mean where they drill the holes, a bag, bowling shoes.

It's best to have a hook. Straight balls don't have as much action. If you throw a straight ball it has to be from the edge of the alley to give yourself better odds of getting strikes. You have to really work on your form if you want to get good.

"Care" is a bit strong, but I like bowling. I haven't gone in years, but I'd like to do it again, and could be convinced to play on a league. If you have some lanes near you, you should give duck pin a try. It's loads of fun, and an entirely different game from 10 pin.

I was on a league back in the 90's up till my car accident in 2000.

I used to bowl at least 4 times a week back then.

I enjoy it but never took it serious in leagues and such. Just family fun. Bowl straight and bad. 150-180 usually.

I'm a former league bowler and still go on occasion from time to time. I currently bowl with a Brunswick Slingshot and my average is right around 180 or so. I'll probably join a league again once I get moved and find an alley by my new place.

My sister recently had an 841 bowling series. 21 strikes in a row. I'll never be anywhere near as good as her.

I don't mind it, I don't do it that often though. Never did 10 pin, they only have 5 pin at the bowling alley here. Would be cool to try 10.

I bowl a few times a year. I usually bowl around 130. My best is something like 170.

I don't do it often enough... When I was a young teenager I bowled in a league and had a high game of 244. Since then I grew up and got older, and lost my ability to roll a hook, and now I'm happy to get up in the 170s.

I was banned from our local bowling alley after a night of bowling overhand...

I was always partial to the brute force straight attack. It probably isn't as effective, but it's very satisfying seeing the pins explode :^)

i'm not strong enough to go for the torpedo effect... so i go for the hook and try to get a good spin. whatever works :D

I used to go all the time. But back then games were $.50 each. i had my own ball, bag and shoes. i wasn't great but had around 160 avarage or so.

when that place went out of business everyone jacked the price's up to $2 a game. last time we went it was $4 a game.

As a kid I went duckpin bowling at the local Elk's Club or something every now and then, always a lot of fun. I've always sucked at 'real' bowling but I've watched it on ESPN a couple times.

Were you born in the 1800s by any chance?

I'm convinced Two handed bowling is the way everyone should go. More revolutions, more power, more strikes. That Aussie guy (Jason Belmonte) is killing it. He has 50+ 300 games and he's like 30 years old.

I bowl the standard hook, but never good enough to get my average over 160. Also it hurts my arm/hand/fingers a lot, so I could never bowl more than 3 games in a day. Fuck it! I'm going two handed...no matter how odd it looks. Results are what matters! Come to think of it, does the Aussie guy pick up spares with the two handed style also? Probably. Wouldn't be something you could learn in a day though. Would have to really practice at it.
