I recently canceled my cable broadband because $43 a month for mediocre broadband is well not worth it and when I called they claimed the $43 was already a discount from the $50+ they charge non cable customers. (Plus my other options are better, through a work deal I get a phone line + DSL for only $25! Or I can get Verizon FIOS for $50)
Anyhow I?m wondering what exactly is their process of shutting down one?s cable internet? Right now they cut my access off to websites, but I can still ping out. I am also still logged into AIM. If I try to go websites, I can some generic Comcast page and I can?t get anywhere else. However, that can be bypassed if I used a proxy server as my brother found out. So does anyone know if the ?internet? is every completely turned off? I suppose at some point they will stop signal to my cable modem or disable the MAC on their network or something similar, but does anyone know when and how or what?
Also, anyone know of any reliable proxies? My university has one, but I can?t use it for web browsing? And when do I become a ?new? customer to Comcast again so that I can take advantage of one of their new customer promotions?
