Hey all,

Water. It's everywhere. You see it in so many forms every day. 3/4 of the Earth's surface is covered with it. --And for 3D animators, it is one of, if not THE most difficult things to animate. An animation of pouring water and splashing/sloshing has always been a HUGE obstacle, and has never really been totally realistically acheived. Not too long ago, a plugin called "Realflow" came out which made water much easier to animate, but it still had some limitations. It was POSSIBLE to acheive realistic water, but it was time-consuming, and there were things that never looked quite right. Well,

CHECK THIS OUT!!

Each of the little thumbnails at the bottom of the page are links to movies showing this newest plugin in action. It's called "Advanced Fluid Simulator," and it is not available to the general public yet. When it is, if the other plugins by this company are any indicator (I use a few for my job), it's gonna be HELLA expensive. --But still, though this board isn't exactly full of animators, and none of you have a need to use this plugin, I thought some of you would still like to see what's new. I am IMPRESSED by this thing. I hope to be using it soon. I just have to come up with a good reason to "need" it so they will order it for me. :)

first one, first time thru, i caught that the water below starts receding before impact, and upon closer review, i noticed about 3 frames before though its partly the shadow, you can tell the water is depressing as if its already affected, and that might work with an asteroid and a heat build up, but the water shouldn't have recedded as much.

Excuse my stupidty here, that does look really good, i've viewed more of the clips, and am amazed.

I used to do 3d, with 3dsmax. And yes fluid matter is the hardest thing ever to animate. I used to use clothreys to do water and cloth, but that was never good enough.

This is very impressive

Damn... that looks phat as hell! Hehehe, I once tried modeling a waterfall in a crap program called FormZ (my core computer modeling class used it) and it took forever... looked like crap at the end... all bubbly and cartoony.

There is a little too much turbulence in the pouring scenes I think but very nice sloshing :)

You must find a way my son. ;) (said in my best James Earl Jones voice :))

That is sweet man.

I'd like to see that used in a game with some phat waterfall sounds. :D

Hey... remeber the Disney movie, Tarzan, not that long ago... I remember in one of the later scenes, they had the ocean water... it was most likely done on the computer... DAMN!!! It was some good modeling. It's the scene where I think the dad and Jane is leaving on the rowboat to meet up with the bigger departing boat... check it out.

dcdomain,

The ocean water you're talking about was most likely done with the psunami plugin by Arete. I DO use that plugin, and it is VERY impressive. Best ocean water plugin there is, IMO. Pouring water and ocean water are very different things, though. The ocean water in Titanic and Truman show (and Waterworld, countless others, blah blah blah) were done with the arete psunami plugin. I've been using it for a few weeks (I DID find a way to need tyat one) :) I just wish I needed some pouring water. :)

very realistic. I thought it was very good. The sloshing was slow, I dunno if that was the .mov quality or my connection, I am on DSL though. Tite.

late.
