Just last week I bought a Athlon 1.2 MP from New Egg that was DOA. I requested an RMA with a refund since they had no more stock on that part. Then yesterday I received an e-mail confirming that my RMA had been received and that a restocking fee of 15% would be charged. So I e-mail customer service and they said that they are not a manufacturer and not responsible. So they are telling me that I have to pay a restocking fee on an item that they are not going to put back in stock.

Um, it states that on their invoice. Didn't you read that?

You can't blame them for your being illiterate. :D

I think they should get the blame. Even though they statethe restocking termsdoes not mean they have to be jerks about a product that arrived DOA.

They are really abusing the restocking fee as its only supposed to be used when an item is returned for no reason, not DOA. I'd definitely be pissed off.

It looks like if you exchange it though, they might possibly not charge the restocking fee. Also looks like the MP 1.2ghz is back in stock.

Newegg is generally not a bad company and will probably work with you if you choose to exchange it.

are you sure the chip didn't work? did you fry it?

I remember an rma tech who used to post around these parts. he had all kinds of stories about idiot customers who couldn't properly mount a heatsink to an athlon and called up demanding RMA's.

If newegg is putting the chip back in inventory, maybe it worked when they tested it. Just a thought.

Geez, get a grip. You're the one who can't afford to wait a couple of days for the merch to be on hand. You won't wait - so you're going to pay a premium for your refund.

But you certainly are trying.

Newegg can't restock or resell a DOA anything. Duh.

I've bought $15,000+ of merch from Newegg this year. Received one bad motherboard, (a refurbed EPoX 8k7A), and got my refund upon return of the DOA unit. Last year I bought in excess of $25,000 and received a two bad mb's (both new). You figure the percentages and then complain?

I'm leaning towards user error...

when i bought from newegg to build my pc, i got most of the parts from them except for the cpu b/c it said that it only had a 30 day or so warranty and they were not responsible blah blah blah...
so i decided to get the cpu from a local dealer since they offer a 90 day warranty and if it went bad, i could easily walk in and return it...
the other products from newegg, arrived promply and no doa products, thank god

Believe me everyone I can read and am not illiterate. This is not the first product my company has bought from New Egg and have not had a problem until now. User error is always possible. I have also been in the business since the days of the 286. I also had to get the cpu quickly since it was not for me but a customer. The post was just a heads. I was not asking for for sympathy.

Every AMD athlon/duron or any processor I've bought from newegg have been in perfect working condtion.

If you used the product, and you broke it, dont call it DOA. Perhaps come up clean and maybe you'll get a new part to keep you a happy customer.
